After brief stints as a sign painter and in an architect's office, he began working for 2000 AD after Simon Bisley spotted his talent and introduced him to then-editor Richard Burton. He worked on Judge Dredd, Sláine, and Sinister Dexter before moving into video games, movie concept work, and creating art for the globally-successful card game Magic: The Gathering.
