Welcome to this very first episode of Macrodose Roundtable, the show where we go in depth with some of the brightest minds from the world of economics and ecology. Macrodose roundtables are an opportunity to expand some of the ideas introduced in our main show, in a longer form, multi-guest format. Today's episode is hosted by author and labour journalist Sarah Jaffe and looks at the political economy of Palestine. We situate Palestine in the wider context of the global economy, and hear what daily life looks like for Palestinian people: their work, their access or lack thereof to goods and services, and places to live or to be safe. We also speak about the economic pressures that people around the world have used to try to bring justice for the Palestinian people. Kareem Rabie is Associate Professor of Anthropology at The University of Illinois, Chicago. His work focuses on privatisation, urban development, and the state-building project in the West Bank and he is the author of Palestine is Throwing a Party and the Whole World is Invited, published by Duke University Press in 2021.
