003: Passion and Intuition: The First Step to an Uncommon Practice
I'll never forget during my graduate training when a professor said that we shouldn't use intuition in the field because it was "unreliable." This has always been something that's stuck with me and as I've learned more, I've definitely come to disagree with the statement. When it comes to having an uncommon practice, being a passionate and intuitive therapist can pay off tenfold when it comes to things such as marketing, the structure of your practice, decision making, and the energy you have to serve your people. In this episode, I am sharing the 3 components of being a passionate and intuitive therapist. I explore the various ways that having a passionate stance can help you clearly market to your audience. I also talk about how being secure in your own uniqueness can help you to foster collaboration over competition with other providers. I encourage you to start checking in with yourself daily and bringing more of your creative and intuitive side to your work. I hope this episode will leave you feeling inspired to do just that! What you'll find in this episode: The 3 key components of being a passionate and intuitive therapist How having a passion can help your marketing strategy Why you should absolutely use your natural intuition during sessions Reasons why you should use both tangible information AND intuition when making practice decisions My challenge to you on bringing the right side of your brain to your work Simple ways you can bring more intuition to your work The Uncommon Couch is the place for therapists and coaches who want to take their practice on the road less traveled. 001: What It Means to Have an Uncommon Practice
What does it mean to have an uncommon practice? When I was in graduate training, I had an inner feeling that I didn't want to grow a traditional practice. At first, I felt bad about it. I felt different. Traditional therapy all day, every day didn't sound like the right avenue for me. The other things that therapists traditionally do like research, teaching or assessment didn't sound like full-time jobs I wanted either. I know I am not alone. Many other therapists, coaches and healers feel this way too. In this episode, I am exploring why I felt this way and the three elements of an uncommon practice. You'll learn about not letting fears keep you stagnant, why you have to honor your values and so much more! What you'll find in this episode: Why I always knew I didn't want a traditional practice The prerequisite for creating an uncommon practice The 3 elements of an uncommon practice Why you have to unhook from what others think and tap into your inner strength How you can honor your values while running an uncommon practice Why you shouldn't let your fears hold you back The Uncommon Couch is the place for therapists and coaches who want to take their practice on the road less traveled.
