Why TikTok Will Be Banned | Gen Z Diplomat Podcast 49

TikTok has taken over the social media landscape. Never before has a platform been as influential and powerful on populations far and wide. Yet there exist many problems that TikTok causes and exacerbates.    US officials have become incrementally louder in their attempts to get some kind of ban or regulation on TikTok. Fears that American data is flowing to the CCP, and that American populations are susceptible to Chinese influence and propaganda only add to the potential threat.    This episode will teach you how TikTok recommends harmful content in literal minutes after joining the platform, some examples of specifically girls being impacted by manipulated self-perceptions through filters, how much money TikTok spends on lobbying in the US, why influencers are susceptible to automation, which other countries have banned the platform, and more.    - SOCIAL:  TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@genzdiplomat/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/genzdiplomat/  MY BOOK: AI for Gen Z: https://amazon.ca/dp/098118216X/

This Is What Education Needs to Succeed | Gen Z Diplomat Podcast 48

In the 21st century, "modern" schooling systems are outdated, stagnant, and don't take advantage of the latest science and technology. As such, we are setting contemporary students up for failure, as our future requires people with dynamic skillsets that are unfound in current classrooms.   Education 2.0 is the most important societal overhaul we will ever undertake. Simply put, without this reconfiguration, we will descend, slowly then quickly, into ruin because our new generations are being taught with subpar methods. Students' health through sleep is uncared for, we still use a silly grading system to pass or fail, there is no creativity present, and worst, the most powerful algorithms are not being used to personalize curriculums to get the most out of students.   Expect to learn how the sleeping patterns school forces on students is literally killing them, some examples of new grading techniques that can enhance learning, how to incorporate creativity into learning, why personalized algorithms could be the revolution in education we need, the drawbacks associated with this transformation, and much more...   -   SOCIAL:  TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@genzdiplomat/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/genzdiplomat/  MY BOOK: AI for Gen Z: https://amazon.ca/dp/098118216X/

Reclaiming Focus and Attention | Gen Z Diplomat Podcast 46

This episode is dedicated to my thoughts about focus and attention.    It’s clear that the attention spans of the general public have diminished over the years. In this episode we talk about how and why you need focus in daily life, why it has degraded, some tools, techniques, books, and podcasts related to focus and attention, and why the world seems a little more superficial with lowered attention spans.   It is an explicit fact that our phones are daily drivers of our degrading focus and attention. Well, the answer to that is quite simple: the constant influx of noise, the notifications, the calls, the texts, the pings, the endless stream of information and stimuli, makes it very difficult to not pay attention. However, and this is the most sinister part: every time you shift your attention away from what you were doing, you degrade it.    I think attention span and focus is the number one thing we should all strive to enhance and maintain. The simple fact of the matter is that our lives are dominated by hyper-stimuli that distract us and make it difficult, and even boring, to stay with a singular mind on a task. I urge you to use the tools and techniques described in this podcast, and even share them with a friend and start practicing together.   -   Stolen Focus: https://www.amazon.ca/Stolen-Focus-Attention-Think-Deeply/dp/0593138511/   Deep Work: https://www.amazon.ca/Deep-Work-Focused-Success-Distracted/dp/1455586692/   Dopamine Nation: https://www.amazon.ca/Dopamine-Nation-Finding-Balance-Indulgence/dp/152474672X/   The Molecule of More: https://www.amazon.ca/Molecule-More-Chemical-Creativity_and-Determine/dp/1948836580/   Huberman Lab Podcast - Dopamine: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QmOF0crdyRU   Huberman Lab Podcast - Focus: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yb5zpo5WDG4   -   SOCIAL: TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@genzdiplomat/  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/genzdiplomat/   MY BOOK: AI for Gen Z: https://amazon.ca/dp/098118216X/

AI Rights: Serious Debate or Satire? | Gen Z Diplomat Podcast 45

This episode is dedicated to my thoughts about machine rights.    Looking at the progression of artificial intelligence, it’s clear that a point may come — indeed, it may already have passed — where wider society must grant an AI basic “human” rights.    Machine rights are not granting rights to run-of-the-mill digital or physical. This is redundant and useless, a waste of time and money. If the machine is not affected by the way humans act or react towards it, then giving it a right does nothing. Machines that we ascribe sentience or consciousness to, even if they are imitating it, must be ascribed a moral status.    Nick Bostrom brings up the Principle of Substrate Non-Discrimination, stating if two beings have the same functionality and the same conscious experience, and differ only in the substrate of their implementation, then they have the same moral status. In other words, if two entities are equally conscious, but one is carbon-based and one is silicon-based, the status of the two entities is identical, and should be treated and documented as such.    -   The Ethics of Artificial Intelligence by Nick Bostrom and Eliezer Yudkowsky:  https://nickbostrom.com/ethics/artificial-intelligence.pdf  -   SOCIAL:  TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@genzdiplomat/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/genzdiplomat/  MY BOOK:  AI for Gen Z: https://amazon.ca/dp/098118216X/

AI & ML: What’s the Difference? | Gen Z Diplomat Podcast 44

This episode is dedicated to understanding the difference between artificial intelligence and machine learning.    In the real world, most of what we talk about as AI is really ML. Social media algorithms, Boston Dynamics’ robots, and Google Assistant, to name a few, are simply machine learning tools designed to improve your experience and themselves.    However, notifying this difference is important for the progression and inevitable emergence of human-like intelligence cased in silicon. We are not working towards statistics, we are working towards an unprecedented leap in our pursuit of increasingly exponential technologies. God-like powers have been bestowed unto us, and we must wield them with the wisdom of Gods as well — at least, our closest approximation. - SOCIAL: TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@genzdiplomat/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/genzdiplomat/ MY BOOK: AI for Gen Z: https://amazon.ca/dp/098118216X/

A Brief History of Education | Gen Z Diplomat Podcast 43

This episode is dedicated to understanding the history of education and how it evolved into the current stagnated, cookie-cutter institution.    Schooling was, at first, a place to create better workers. Vital teachings in school were: punctuality, following orders, long hours of tedious work, and subpar reading and writing skills. Moving forward, schooling transitioned into creating better soldiers and citizens. Teaching history, the us versus them approach, combined with the monotonous “skills” of workers created breeding grounds of centralized ideas and nationalistic attitudes. In other words, school was a factory.   Education wasn’t, and isn’t, a place of learning, it is a place of worship. To go against any of its teachings is blasphemous; to think you know better is sacrilegious; to attempt to spark different ideas is heresy.    Education is in dire need of a top-down refresh. Everything needs to be changed in order to succeed. Applying more paint on an otherwise crumbly, scratched wall does nothing. In order for the wall to evolve, the entire thing needs to be torn down and replaced with a newer, better version.   -   SOCIAL:  TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@genzdiplomat/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/genzdiplomat/    MY BOOK:  AI for Gen Z: https://amazon.ca/dp/098118216X/

The Truth About School | Gen Z Diplomat Podcast 42

This episode is dedicated to my thoughts about the current state of modern education. As it stands, education institutions must be rebuilt from the ground up in order to best serve future generations. We cannot continue the absurdity of factory education for further decades, it is destroying the potential of our youth.    School should be an expansive and diverse playground of ideas and personalities. Students should be free to learn in the style that suits them, not the style that suits the school. The term factory education is appropriate, because everyone that comes out of school nowadays is indoctrinated with cookie-cutter information.  School, in its current form, is lacking in many areas. However, the concept and the goals it seeks are powerful and necessary to keep our society and overall civilization afloat and progressing strongly.    I just think that we have reached a plateau, a lack of innovation for education. We need more leaders, professors, teachers, and students to work together to construct the next generation of education. - SOCIAL: TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@genzdiplomat/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/genzdiplomat/ MY BOOK: AI for Gen Z: https://amazon.ca/dp/098118216X/

We Need To Talk About Killer Robots | Gen Z Diplomat Podcast 41

This episode is dedicated to talking about the existential state of killer robots in our world, and how our ethics are being dissolved for the sake of warfare, money, and power.   Killer robots have always been feared by scientists and researchers who understand (and give their inputs on) the bleeding-edge of technology. This is why since 2015 there have been firm stances by AI and robotics folks against the proliferation of autonomous weapons. Stances which were in vain.   Each year, the development of weapons which do not require humans to act and/or react is accelerated and pumped with money and zero hesitancy. Simply because, according to game theory, we must do this before anyone else can, otherwise we automatically lose. These repercussions, however, make themselves known off of the battlefield that killer robots are designed for. Police departments could be equipped in the very near future with autonomous weapons of mass destruction. What happens next is anyone's guess.   -   SOCIAL:  TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@genzdiplomat/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/genzdiplomat/    MY BOOK:  AI for Gen Z: https://amazon.ca/dp/098118216X/

Writing About Artificial Intelligence | Gen Z Diplomat Podcast 40

This episode is dedicated to journey about writing my first book, AI for Gen Z, Data to Stop Disruption.   With so much happening in the world of AI, headlines can make it seem like things are steady or uneventful for certain periods of time. This is not the case, and in fact, I have found that certain news reported about artificial intelligence only discusses very marginal things, like art creation or robotic advances. This is not what my book is about.   My book is about the future of AI for Gen Z. Autonomous weapons, virtual politicians, and job automation make up only some of the many problems that AI imposes on my generation. How do you explain the complex intricacies of this technology to a generation with the attention span of a Tweet? Hard work, discipline, focus, and lots of caffeine.    -   SOCIAL:  TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@genzdiplomat/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/genzdiplomat/    MY BOOK: AI for Gen Z: https://amazon.ca/dp/098118216X/
