1/2 The Delegator's Dilemma, Yuri Elkaim
There comes a point in every leader's career, especially an entrepreneurial leader, where they realize that what they are doing is unsustainable and the value they're adding is massively devalued because they are doing too much. The answer is, of course, that we need to trust enough to delegate to someone else. As much as delegation may seem like the perfect solution, it can be a disaster. As a result, we can end up in, what's now known as, the Delegator's Dilemma. How to navigate the Delegator's Dilemma is specifically where we're going on our next couple of episodes. Our guest is Yuri Elkaim. At 17 years old, Yuri faced an auto-immune illness that took him from being a hairy teen to bald. He then became a pro athlete who, at age 24, reconsidered his life path as an athlete and returned from Europe to pursue his deeper passion for health and nutrition. From there, he went on to build a business that would assist ½ million people worldwide. Yuri Elkaim has become a leading health expert, New York Times bestselling author, and the founder of Healthpreneur®. Yuri is a proud Canadian contrarian thought leader. He walks his talk by sharing lessons and insights from being a pro athlete to having 17 years as a leader in the entrepreneurial trenches. 2/2 Greg Larkin: The 4 forms of Obstructionism and How to Deal With Them
Change at any level can be difficult. However, inside a large organization, it can be more so because for that change to not only take place, but to do so effectively, often means the transition of power, and those who have the power, are not usually in a hurry to give it up. So, can we implement genuine and meaningful change as a way to confront the Obstructionism of Innovation without creating a cultural civil war? You might be surprised. Our guest for the next two episodes is Greg Larkin. Greg Larkin is passionate about three things; transforming huge companies, being a good dad, and punk music. He is a global authority on entrepreneurial transformations in large organizations. Greg is a transformation advisor to Uber, Google, PWC, Booz Allen Hamilton, and other large organizations. He has also served as the Director of Product Innovation at Bloomberg and across the Global 100. He's learned that change that's necessary is never easy and often, surprisingly unauthorized. Greg is also the founder of Punks & Pinstripes, a global coalition of intrapreneurs, entrepreneurs, and punks. Greg is also the author of the business bestseller (in six countries), This Might Get Me Fired. 2/2 Christian Busch, PhD: Serendipity and The Transfer of Trust
We've all met those folks who seem to have horseshoes inserted in their rectums. Things just seem to work out for them. Do the Gods favor them, or could there be a science of luck? There's a reasonable assumption that talent, skill, mental toughness, hard work, tenacity, optimism, growth mindset, and emotional intelligence determine how we distribute resources. We tend to give resources to those who have a history of success and often ignore those who have been unsuccessful, assuming that the most successful are also the most competent. But is this assumption correct? In recent years, several studies and books, including those by risk analyst, Nassim Taleb, have suggested that luck and opportunity may play a far more significant role than we ever realized. Even if you don't believe in luck, you undoubtedly have had moments that seemed to have certain serendipity. I'm curious, have you ever considered that you may be able to manufacture that serendipity? Our guest for the next two episodes is Dr. Christian Busch. Christian is one of the world's leading experts in innovation, purpose-driven leadership, and serendipity. He is the bestselling author of The Serendipity Mindset: The Art & Science of Creating Good Luck. Christian Busch also teaches at the London School of Economics (LSE), is a co-founder of Leaders on Purpose and the Sandbox Network, and is a former director of LSE's Innovation Lab. His work is featured by outlets such as the Strategic Management Journal, Harvard Business Review, Forbes, The Guardian, Washington Post, and the BBC. 2/2 Jeff Lerner: Time for Money or Service for Money?
We all know the world has changed dramatically in the 21st century. The opportunities that defined past generations and steered their course through life aren't out there for us anymore. You and I were told we've got to go to college and get a degree if we want a chance at having a good job. But is that still true? Did you know that today, 54% of college graduates regret investing in a degree? Over 70% of Americans detest their jobs, hence the Great Resignation. Yet, 2 out of 3 Americans will never be able to stop working and retire. Maybe we need to ask ourselves some hard questions, like, are we feeding into a broken system? If so, what can we do about it for ourselves and our children? Stay tuned because that's where we are going on the next two episodes. Our guest is Jeff Lerner. I don't know if you remember the early 2000's boom, then came 2008 and the Global Economy went into recession. In November of that year, during "the Great Recession," our guest, Jeff Lerner, like many entrepreneurs and leaders, found himself at rock bottom. A former professional piano player, Jeff found himself nursing an injured wrist. Then to make matters worse, his landlord evicted him from his apartment. Could it get worse? Oh yeah! His wife was divorcing him. Jeff struggled with depression and the cherry on top was that he owed creditors almost half a million dollars from a failed restaurant venture. Today, Jeff is a 3x INC5000 CEO with over $100 million in sales to his name. He is also happily remarried with four beautiful children and physically in the best shape of his life. In 2019, a decade after turning his own life around, he founded ENTRE Institute, the world's first institute of higher learning for entrepreneurs, which is now one of the fastest-growing education-technology companies in the world. He is also the host of the Unlock Your Potential podcast. Jeff is also the author of the same name, Unlock Your Potential: The Ultimate Guide for Creating Your Dream Life in the Modern World.
