"How can we turn observations into action?"- Derek Sivers I'm so thrilled to have the privilage of interviewing today's guest on the Art of Adventure. He has been a mentor to me for many years, and he rarely grants interviews, so I take it as a huge honor to have Derek Sivers on the show! Plus, this is the first time another Derek has been on the podcast! I've been following the Derek's work for many years. Often, he will end a blog post by extending an offer to email him directly with questions. I first sent him an email more than five years ago and we have been in touch since then. Originally a professional musician and circus clown, Derek created CD Baby in 1998. It became the largest seller of independent music online, with $100M in sales for 150,000 musicians. Since 2011 he has published 34 books, including “Anything You Want†which shot to #1 on all of its Amazon categories. I finally got to meet Derek at his home while I was visiting Wellington, NZ in May. Derek is one of the greatest philosophers of our day, and has clear thoughts about careers, propose, learning, and being of value to the world. One interesting fact Derek reveals in this episode is that despite being an introvert, he went so far as to hold 500+ 1-on-1 get togethers while living in Singapore with people that wanted to learn from him. In this episode talk about building a career that makes you happy, how to learn from your work, compressing books into directives, how to get rich, mentorship, introversion, CD Baby, and global citizenship, and some of the adventures that Derek has had that helped him change his mind about Indonesia and weight lifting. AOA 087 | Stephanie Burns | Unreasonable Requests

What if you had the ability to make big things magically happen? What if you could make people's (including your own) wildest dreams come true? My guest today on the Art of Adventure has a secret process for learning how to ask from something and get a YES, when you would normally expect to get a NO - AKA the Unreasonable Request. Stehpanie Burns is the founder and CEO of Chic CEO. She has been a speaker at SXSW, TEDx, SD Entrepreneur Summit, Female Entrepreneur: The Gender Advantage... and more. Some of her big unreasonable requests wins are free or heavily discounted venue space for her favorite charity and an all expenses paid Ruby on Rails coding course and vacation in Bali. Stephanie has coached me in making unreasonable requests as well: Some of the things that I have gotten in the last few months as a result of using the unreasonable requests process are: a free scenic train tour of New Zealand, free concert tickets, a party thrown for my birthday for my favorite local charity, a week-long luxury retreat, and free mentorship, to name a few. I think you will find this a fascinating look at our own beliefs, and how we can harness the power of continual challenge. AOA 084 | Sir John Hargrave | Mindhacking – Program A Better Mind

I was really excited when today's guest contacted me because he is one of the greatest american pranksters, going so far as to prank Michael Jackson, The Super Bowl, Ashton Kutcher, and President Obama. He was the man behind one of the oldest comedy sites on the internet, Zug.com (since closed down). Sir John Hargrave even went so far as to legally add "Sir" to his name because the queen of England makes it so difficult to be knighted. One day, he took out a credit card in Barack Obama's name and that prank ended with the secret service showing up at his house. John realized he need to quit drugs and alcohol, and through his struggles with that journey, the process of Mindhacking was born. Mindhacking involves looking at the mind like a computer and actively doing the work to replace the programs that no longer serve you with new programs that make you happier, more productive, and more aware. After some important information on pranking, this episode will get into debug the mind, and how to set up new programs by visualization and gamification.
