Voices In My Head Podcast Episode 242: Tim Timmons on Cancer, Kids Music, and 10,000 minutes.

Our Guest On This Episode Is Tim Timmons Singer/songwriter, worship leader and record producer Tim Timmons, in partnership with 10,000 MINUTES Kids, recently released his second children’s project, Who I Am. This all new Bible-based, “kid-tested” and “parent-approved” debut is available now at iTunes, Amazon.com and other digital retailers internationally, and directly at www.TimTimmonsMusic.com (digital and CD).   Produced by Timmons and Christian Hale, Who I Am features 10 fully-charged pop songs intended for kids and parents “to pray all week long.” With all songs either written or co-written by Timmons, each song was carefully crafted with the question in mind, “what do we want our kids to pray?”   “The idea of both the title track, ‘Who I Am,’ and the whole record – is actually our identity of what it looks like for us to know that we are loved by Jesus all week long, no matter what,” says Timmons. “It’s about working through our fears, working through the issues that we have, even when we ‘blow it’ or ‘do dumb things.’”   Inspired by Timmons’ 10,000 MINUTES movement and his personal life story, the release of the record coincides with the launch of the 10-week Who I Am Family Blog Series created by Timmons in order to help provide support and a resource for adults and families. The series will feature both weekly devotional blogs and practices geared to help families follow Jesus all week long through family discussion of scripture, devotional readings and practical suggestions found every week in “This week’s 10000 MINUTES Practice.”     Timmons, who writes an “X” on his wrist each day as a reminder of God’s love for him despite his circumstances, adds, “Who I Am was created to encourage kids to walk with Jesus all week long – and to remind them of their identity in Jesus. My hope is that kids and parents alike will remember that we are all loved by God—the God of the Universe, no matter what. It’s who we are! It’s who I am in Him!”   More from Rick Lee James

ETHICS In CHRISTIAN MINISTRY: Voices In My Head Podcast Episode # 241 with guest Charles Christian

When you are in the ministry long enough, you see not only great joys and the triumphs, but you also see some of the brightest and most talented pastors and leaders depart from their ministries because of poor ethical decisions.   In his book, Ethics in Christian Ministry: A Guide for Pastors and Mentors, Dr. Charles Christian, who holds a PhD in theology and ethics, draws from his experience of 25 years in the pastorate and his experience as a professor of theology and ethics at Fuller Theological Seminary and MidAmerica Nazarene University to take the reader on a journey through the professional and personal life of today’s pastor to provide an overview of the important ways a leader can avoid ethical snares in the context of ministry.   It is an honor to have Charles Christian as our featured guest this week on Voices In My Head.   Get your copy on Amazon: Ethics in Christian Ministry: A Guide for Pastors and Mentors, by Charles W. Christian (Beacon Hill Press of Kansas City, 2017). 192 pp. (ISBN 0834136015)

Empathy For The Devil with JR. Forasteros

... The sins of wrath, idolatry, and abuse of power are closer to us than we think. How do we guard against them? We learn not only by following moral exemplars, we also need to look at the warnings of lives gone wrong. In his new fictionalized narrative, Author JR. Forasteros reintroduces us to some of the most villainous characters of Scripture. He shows us what we can learn from their negative examples, with figures such as Cain, Jezebel, King Herod, and even Satan serving as cautionary tales of sin and temptation. Forasteros vividly tells their stories to help us understand their motivations, and his astute biblical and cultural exposition points out what we often miss about their lives.  We soon discover that we might have more in common with these characters than we would like to admit. But by the grace of God, we can avoid their mistakes and be freed from our own villainous tendencies. Take a fresh look at the scoundrels of Scripture, and find sound pastoral guidance here to walk the path of righteousness. This podcast was recorded in person with JR. Forasteros in Dayton Ohio in early October 2017. While the book was only available on pre-order then, it is now available to buy:https://www.amazon.com/dp/B076BTYDNT/ref=dp-kindle-redirect?_encoding=UTF8&btkr=1.

Does Christian Music Need A Reformation? - Guest Dave Trout of UTR Media - Voices In My Head Podcast Episode #237

It’s the 500th anniversary of the start of the Protestant Reformation. To “reform” is to improve or amend something that is wrong, corrupt, or unsatisfactory. With that definition in mind we thought it would be a great idea to record a conversation about whether or not there is a need for reformation in Christian music. If there is anyone qualified to have this discussion it is Dave Trout of UTR Media. Dave has been in Christian radio in some form or fashion for over 23 years. He has worked for WETN-FM in Wheaton IL,  WCFL-FM in Morris IL, Moody Radio, and ReFrame Media. He started the “Under The Radar” radio show in 2008 while working at ReFrame, and in 2014 that show became its own independent non-profit ministry, under Dave’s oversight. In 2017, the organization underwent a creative relaunch, and now produces a wider variety of media projects under the new name, UTR Media. Besides well-crafted music, Dave loves pizza, watching Netflix/Hulu, Apple products, fishing, the Cubs, and driving 5 mph over the speed limit. He lives in Oak Lawn, IL with his wife and 5 children. Listen in as Dave Trout and Rick Lee James have a great discussion on Christian music and what UTR Media is doing to bring about reformation in the industry through great podcasts, innovative videos, and even producing album.
