Horrible People
There is an old church building in Manhattan. The congregation can no longer afford its upkeep, so they agreed to sell it for $30 million, which they planned to use for feeding the homeless and other worthy charitable aims. But actor Mark Ruffalo, 'comedian' Amy Schumer, and other rich and powerful celebrities, ONCE REHEARSED THERE and so have blocked the sale of the property in court. These multimillionaires could have simply BOUGHT the property of course -- problem solved! -- but instead went to court and also started a crowdfunding campaign so that OTHER PEOPLE could pay to keep their cherished space intact. Ruffalo, so deeply moved by the issue, contributed an entire ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS while meanwhile, the court deprives the property owners of the right to sell and the homeless in New York City go hungrier.

Abdication
The setbacks continue. Things don't get any easier. And the only way to defeat the river of entropy is to swim upstream as hard as you can for as long as you can. That's the deal. That's Life on Earth. And to walk away from that reality is a form of ABDICATION.

Say Goodbye to the Crappy Little Ships
In the early 2000's the Littoral Combat Ship looked like the future for the US Navy: small, relatively inexpensive, and designed for 'brown-water' operations close to shore. But it soon became ever more apparent that the LCS was not able to survive in the modern naval environment, and so in the face of a growing Chinese navy the USN has decided to retire some three dozen of what many of their crews referred to as the Little Crappy Ships. Their replacement, while little, does not seem to be very crappy at all.

A Forlorn Hope
We recorded this on Tuesday morning, and by the time you see this even the remotest chance of rescue will have passed, and the five people aboard the Titan lost. Scott asks a critical question, namely: what can or should be expected of us when it comes to rescuing five strangers who knew full well that this was a very dangerous dive?

An Inconvenient Truth: 24-1
The US Women's Soccer Team actually sued over the pay gap between themselves and the US male team; this case was thrown out of court for the obvious reason that the men brought in vastly more revenue. Despite this setback, they brought enough political pressure to ensure that the women ended up receiving the same paychecks as the men. It's possible this lead them to believe they were as good as the men, because the US Women's team entered a smallish tournament against male players and the result, after three games, was Males 24, Females 1. Awkward.

Meet the Beatles... Again
We've done a number of shows about the danger of AI -- mostly 'hard,' or self-aware AI. However, like fire, Artificial Intelligence, makes a terrible master but a useful servant. Case in point: a recently-discovered, barely-audible song that John Lennon recorded directly into a hand-held cassette player before his death in 1980 has been processed by an artificial intelligence algorithm that was 'trained' to replicate Lennon's voice, turning a barely-audible mess into a studio-quality track. Now, 23 years after their last group recording, The Beatles are about to release a new song!
