Dr. David Clark is shifting composite paradigms (DHP82)
Dr. David Clark is a pioneer of sorts. He started using a dental operating microscope long before they were "a thing" for restorative dentists. Once he started routinely using a microscope, he realized that how we handled composite resin needed improvement. So he set about to change the way dentistry understands and uses composite resin. In the first half of our fascinating talk with Dr. Clark we talk about: dental operating microscopes, why and how selective caries removal and the "Modified Hall Technique" why mylar is isn't just wrong, but "fractally" wrong the development of Biolclear matrices and the Bioclear Method Also helping us with our interview is Dental Hacks regular Dr. Arthur Volker who is also an instructor with Bioclear. In our Brain Trust segment we take an entertaining look at the onlay vs. crown debate. Dr. Arthur Volker, Dr. Lance Timmerman and Brain Trust newbie Dr. Will Wyatt discuss the how and why of tooth preparation and materials selection. You'll hear about: onlays vs. crowns the minimally invasive "mullet" prep ("all business on top and a party in the back") for lower second molars vertiprep dentistry, aka: minimal prep at the margin using full contour zirconia (vertiprep anterior cases courtesy of Dr. Jason Smithson and Dr. Carlo Poggio) provisionalization Dr. Timmerman's material choices for shrink wrapping temps (J. Morita's Blue Velvet and Flexi Velvet for making a provisional matrix) Go Hack Yourself: Jason: Autodesk 123D app Alan: Dentotemp from Itena If you have any questions or comments for us please drop us an email at info@dentalhacks.com or find us (and like us!) at www.facebook.com/dentalhacks. Dr. Rick Workman explains Dental Support Organizations (DHP81)
Our guest for episode 81 needs no introduction. Dr. Rick Workman of Heartland Dental practically invented large group practices, and today you're going to hear how! We start with Rick's humble beginnings on the farm and move all the way to today's modern DSO practices, and I think you'll find the story pretty fascinating! All About Systems with Sandy Pardue (DHP80)
Most dentists dream of a practice where they are in the back doing clinical dentistry and their office runs like a finely tuned machine without their input. That's where our guest, Sandy Pardue, comes in. Whether it's rescuing appointments from cancellations, avoiding embezzlement or helping the front office run more smoothly, Sandy and her business Classic Practice Resources can help. We had Dr. Dawn Kulongowski, Dental Hacks favorite and Classic Practice client to help with our interview. We think you'll find it valuable! Dr. Jason Smithson on Success with Composite Dentistry (DHP78)
Jason and Alan met at a course that Dr. Jason Smithson was giving in Chicago in 2013. They always knew that they'd like to have him on the podcast because he's an amazing dentist and a very good teacher. What they didn't realize is what a good story teller he is! In episode 78 of the Dental Hacks podcast we give Jason a chance to tell his story from quiet and mild-mannered restorative wunderkind to international lecturer. If you've been on Facebook or DentalTown, you've probably seen the hyper-realistic composite dentistry that Jason has been posting since the early 2000's. Now you get to hear from him how he started doing it, how he got noticed and how you can up your composite dentistry game! Links mentioned in the show: Cosmedent and the CEE (courses offered by Jason) Velopex water abrasion unit (if you have interest do yourself a favor and friend Keith Morgan of Velopex on Facebook. Or email him. He's really helpful and can give you details of the impending roll out of their new air/water abrasion unit, the Aquacare) If you have any questions or comments for us please drop us an email at info@dentalhacks.com or find us (and like us!) at www.facebook.com/dentalhacks. Dr. Lance Timmerman's Christmas Miracle (DHP77.75)
Dr. Lance Timmerman was the first guest on the Dental Hacks podcast. Since then, he's started a bunch of podcasts: The Whole Tooth, Smile Source Radio and my favorite "Totally Oral." He interviewed me for the Totally Oral podcast recently about an article I wrote in Dental Economics about the ethics for Search Engine Optimization. I got his permission to post it as a special episode for Dental Hacks listeners...just before Christmas! We talked about SEO ethics, TSA precheck, blogging and what kind of marketing works. So...take a listen and then go subscribe to "Totally Oral." Lance gets interesting guests and is a good interviewer. It'll be worth your time! Oh...and Merry Christmas! "JLips" on Startups (DHP 77.5)
You're about to witness some "Hack on Hack" crime! In our special year end wrap up Alan interviews Jason about dental startups. Jason has started 4 practices in his career and is just about to open his new practice, "Brush Up Dental" in Richmond, VA. As you've come to expect from the Dental Hacks, Jason gives an honest account of the good, the bad and the ugly of his startup history. If you've ever thought about starting a practice from scratch or are pretty sure you don't want to...you should listen. We really want to thank our listeners for all their support.
