Faithfulness not Outcomes

In our family, Emelie's journey with anorexia was the first indicator that having a Family Rule did not create a 1+1=2 journey. In some seasons, your family rules, and the boundaries and stability we put into place to foster godly, joy filled children will look like it's failing. But is the family rule failing, or is God too good to allow "goodness" to replace "holiness".  Goodness is simply good behaviour, holiness is when we've allowed ourselves to be sanctified from the inside out, nothing hidden, nothing broken.  Episode 42 is an incredible conversation between Jennifer and Emelie about what happens when a family rule seems to fail. Jennifer’s Guide to Creating a Daily Routine

Do you ever have golden dreams for how your homeschool day will go, but feel like you're constantly ending it weary and disappointed in another day that was overwhelming, chaotic, too full, or simply lacked any sort of order? If you can resonate with any of that, then episode 40 is perfect for you. Jennifer takes you through planning a daily rhythm and highlights resources, systems, ideas, and strategies for making sure that we feel less steamrolled at the end of the day. Yet, sometimes no matter how meticulously we planned, a day still takes us. On those days we learn to forgive ourselves, our children, our spouse, maybe a friend or parent and accept the grace on offer in Christ to pick up and start afresh tomorrow.  Episode sponsored by the Peaceful Press! The Rule of Life with Heather MacFadyen

Building a rule of life is about the practical culmination of the last 10 months into a vision board for how to take what you're learning, and make it your own. A huge part of the ongoing struggle we face in doing so is comparison and becoming sidetracked by other people's "spaces". Or maybe you're building a family vision and you're not being sidetracked by other people, but you are making a plan that is contained and measured by your limitations, fears, and vows. In doing so, are you ignoring the space and vision that God wants to assign to you in order to grow, heal, broaden, and restore?  In Ep. 39, Heather MacFadyen of the Don't Mom Alone Podcast joins Jennifer for the second part of how to build a rule for you and your family. The conversation is so beautiful as both women share experiences from their past, and remember how God has shown up give them not just a vision but one where God remains firmy at the centre.   Episode sponsored by the Peaceful Press! The Playful Pioneers Volume 2 is here!!! Looking for ways to attune and repair with your children? Check out our Ten Day Connection Challenge  Find the beautiful Peaceful Press Cookbook on Amazon!!   In this episode– A family rule is something can be "bendy" but unbroken. So, it's not something you get to pick and choose when it applies but something you follow with consistency through changing seasons. Humility is learning to live with authority in your God given space With older children, you neither bend your will to theirs, or their will to yours, but you continue faithfully trusting God in the journey he is taking them on.  Check out Heather's new book Right Where You Belong You can learn more about Jennifer here- Jennifer's Instagram You can learn more about Heather MacFadyen here- Instagram and at her website  Some Amazon Affiliate Links.

Creating a Family Rule

For the last 9 months of the Restoration Home Podcast, we have explored the disciplines of hospitality, order, prayer, stability and much more. We have loved having these conversations and understanding the way embracing them through enjoyment of God rather than religion can encourage restoration in our lives, our families and into our community. But with all this information, where do we go next?  Join Jennifer and Emelie for the beginning of a four part series on the "how to" of creating a family rule. This is one of my favourite conversations as we talked about our early days of creating a famiy vision and how to build and hold onto one in the midst of changing and uncontrollable disruption.  Episode sponsored by the Peaceful Press! A Guide to Orderly Parenting

Whether your child is 3, 5, 9, 13 or 17, you are probably already confronted with, "But Sally gets to stay up late, eat this, do that, go here, fill in the blank." And I'm sure your response has ranged across permissive, mature, and full on authoritarian as you wage the war of parenthood against the world to raise children whose young and growing minds are protected, nurtured, strengthened and prepared to thrive in every aspect of their lives. But in this fight to raise Godly children, are you making your children the enemy?  Episode 37 is an incredible conversation between Jennifer and Wendy of the Fresh Start Family about creating order through clear boundaries, consistent follow through, empathy, kindness, and humility.  Episode sponsored by the Peaceful Press! Order, Orderly, Ordered: What is it really?

Two episodes ago, Jennifer and Emelie talked about how Order has become something often associated with control. Control often comes from a broken place, as we try to make our world and environment safe, familiar, and unchanging. Or if our parents were orderly, bordering on control, we shy away from order because it felt like manipulation and fear.  But Godly order is worship of an orderly God.  In this episode, Emelie and Jennifer hit all sorts of delicious topics like what is patriarchy, matriarchy? How has control of what life should look like,  instead of order that tends our garden, hurt our joy and stability. Finally, before you assume it's a patriarchy, are you using a matriarchy to uphold a patriarchy? At the end of the day the only place we can create an abundance of order is when we start tending to the intimate places of our heart.  Episode sponsored by the Peaceful Press! Loving Beyond Control

Join Jennifer and Mary DeMuth author of Love, Pray Listen, as they talk about how our internal order has more to do with our children's order than our ability to manage well or enforce outward order. This grows with a willingness to pursue our identity in Christ and let him be our all in all, so that when the day comes, and our children leave the nest and begin making their own decisions, we aren't caught in the trap of believing we can control or "order" their lives. Instead, we can Love, Pray and Listen. Episode sponsored by the Peaceful Press! The Playful Pioneers Volume 2 is here!!! Looking for ways to attune and repair with your children? Check out our Ten Day Connection Challenge  Find the beautiful Peaceful Press Cookbook on Amazon!!   In this episode– When we can calm ourselves and be orderly in our emotions, self-regulation, we create order in our homes and the lives of our children Take a sabbath, a life giving day Where is your real joy coming from Practicing benevolent detachment: your role shifts as your children become adults Have to be able to grieve so you can find your joy and identity in the only one who is Good Extremes can wreck our children’s internal order because extremes are the manifestations of our internal disorder.
