Explicit Measures Podcast
PowerBI.Tips
Hosted by Mike Carlo, and Tommy Puglia, the Explicit Measures Podcast is a Power BI focused show that is like being around a Power BI Pro’s Water Cooler. With so many available resources in the community that focuses on the “how” in Power BI (how to do Drill Through, how to use DAX, etc.,), the Explicit Measures Podcast is all around the WHY. Why use a particular feature, does it make sense for my users?
Build the toolset, learn the how, and then come to the Podcast to the listen to the why in situations we all experience as Power BI Pros.

207: Storyframing And Storyforming - Two Essential Steps That Precede Data Storytelling
If you have had the chance to read the book Effective Data Storytelling by Brent Dykes, you are going to love this conversation today.
Mike, Seth, & Tommy debate the unique concepts focused on the idea we need to "frame" our reports more than try to tell a story. How does this work with our current workloads, what organizations expect of us, and with Power BI? Can we tell true stories in Power BI and make them impactful (not infographics) using these techniques?

206: The Future of Business Intelligence Part 1 - The End of Supply Chain Analytics
Mike, Seth, & Tommy dive into an amazing two part series (part 2 is next week) on how BI has evolved and the hot take that we are exiting an era of BI as we know it and about to enter a new one.
For those who are a bit younger... Power BI wasn't always the way organizations developed and consumed data. However Power BI has been the primary catalyst on moving us out of one era and where we are now. But that is about to change.

203: 'It Depends' - Best Practices & Optimization for Models
We live in a world of Best Practices and learning best practices for Power BI. It is ingrained in us and from documentation to learning.
However, the idea that best practices are universal for each use case is a fallacy. Data models, logic, and needs are unique to each model and report. People, features, and situations call for being able to use methods that may not fall into the universally known best practice sphere.
When are those situations, and how do we navigate and ensure we are still applying the best approach?
This came from another amazing article from Kurt Buhler. https://data-goblins.com/power-bi/it-depends

200: Discovering On-Object Editing in Power BI
We made it to 200! And what better way to summarize why we love what we do is discuss a new game hanging feature to Power BI and how ALL developers will build there reports.
You may know and love the format pane for data and visual formatting... That is going away! Microsoft is moving towards a new interactive method like Excel, choosing the object and visual properties rather than on a right hand bar.
Why is this is so important and what do we like?

199: Defining the Business Problem - Creating Measures From Scratch
Who owns the metrics, the BI team or business? So often we are dealing with static, general data, but should Business Intelligence place a more active role in creating a baseline and what to track against? What and how can BI do to help create pressure points, and move from descriptive to actionable?

198: Dealing With Power BI Errors
Let's face it: We are all too familiar with some of the error notifications and icons in developing Power BI Models. From Power Query to DAX syntax errors, or even the great "cannot display this visual" error, we need to accept they are going to be part of our Power BI life.
The question is what to do about them, and how do we handle them effectively.
