Lizzie Ens grew up in an oppressive Amish community, where she experienced trauma and suppression. At 17, she and her twin ran away for two days, but ultimately returned. A year later, her boyfriend from New York sent a letter offering a way out. With only $20 in her pocket, she left with him. Through hard work and discipline, Lizzie was able to find a job and get her driver's license, Social Security number, and a car.
