RAWtalk Episode 100 - We Have Reached a MILESTONE
We have made it to the 100th Episode of FroKnowsPhoto RAWtalk. What started as an idea to have a roundtable discussion each week has morphed a few times to get to where it stands today. When it started we did not record video, just audio. But something always told me that audio alone is not enough, we needed to add video. When I started to record video it was done with a static GoPro camera with the audio running into it. The quality was fine but nothing over the top. I wanted better audio, better video and a show that stood out above the other photography podcasts. The missing piece to the puzzle was Stephen Eckert. I knew Stephen had audio skills, so i asked him to help me out with recording each week. Right away he said I should add more camera angles and that he would edit them. Talk about grabbing the balls by the horns, he took initiative. Quickly we added Stephens Photo News where he started at the table then went back off to the side to run the audio. But more and more I would toss questions back his way and he ended up at the table the entire show. And now he is officially part of the show. What Stephen did was make himself indispensable to the show. He didn’t wait for me to give him anything, he simply showed that without him the show wouldn’t be as good. And that’s the reason he is now full time with me. Last but not least I have to thank all of you for sticking with the show. I know it must have been tough at the beginning while I discovered what the show could have been but your questions and support certainly helped. Now together we have something that is real, fun, enjoyable, informative and sometimes over the top. Thank You!!!! PS. I can not forget to thank RODE Microphones for their continued support of the show. We use the RODE Broadcaster microphones each and every week. Atomos, what can I say, they allow us to record our main angle continuously without having to reset the cameras every 20 minutes. We LOVE these little guys and know you will too if you record video. AllensCamera.com: Without your support from day one I would not have been able to get as far as I have. And finally everyone on the Wheel Of Fro for buying into how much fun this little game could be.

RAWtalk Episode #098 - You Have To Put Yourself Into Situations To Be Successful
Do you know how important it is to just put yourself into situations? Now I am not talking about putting yourself into situations that you know you shouldn’t be. I am talking about putting yourself into situations to be successful. You never know who you are going to meet or the opportunities that may arise when you get out of the house. This happened to me recently when I decided last minute to purchase a ticket for the Billy Joel concert. I had no expectations that I would come out of it with possibly shooting a show for Billy in the future. Well, that’s exactly what happened and I discuss it in more detail during this weeks episode. The moral of the story is put yourself in situations where you can be successful, you never know what will come out of it. If you are a Polish or German fan we have some good news for you. Stephen and I will be making our way to Poland and Germany in the middle of September. Stephen hits us with his photo news once again and I did not interrupt him once. Finally we rap up the show with something a little different. Instead of regular flying solo questions, I answer the rapid fire top 5 questions that were submitted. Thank you to Atomos for being this weeks main sponsor. Please check out Atomos.com and keep an ear out for the full contest rules to WIN a Ninja Star. Thank you to AllensCamera.com, Rode Microphone and all the people on the Wheel of Fro.

RAWtalk Episode #097 - I Hate When Bands Don't Credit Me
How many of you out there have ever had a band, business, client, family member or anyone else not give you photo credit? Don’t think that this is just new for the online world. I can think back to a few times where magazines were supposed to run my photo credit only to see if did not get printed. I would get the we’re sorry, we will get it right from here on out. Man that answer is really lame. Well recently a band used my images, with permission I might add but they did not credit it the way I asked to be credited or at all for that matter. Did I flip out and go all social media on their asses, NOPE. I simply took the it must have gotten lost in translation approach and contact the band directly along with their management. Be sure to listen to the full episode to hear how it all turned out in the end. A FRO reader sent Postman FRO a very nice gift in the way of a USPS Safari hat. You will need to see the video to check out how Sutter looked wearing it the entire show. Stephen Eckert hit us with some photo news including one story about a woman who PEES on her film to get interesting results. Yea, I think I have some reactions to go along with that story. Finally we go Flying SOLO with more of your questions that get submitted on Facebook. Enjoy the show and don’t forget to subscribe on iTunes. A Big think you to AllensCamera.com, Atoms, RODE Microphones, and all the companies on the Wheel of FRO.

RAWtalk #096: This Is For All The Hobbyists, a 2+ HOUR Show
We have to start off with a BIG HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Stephen Eckert who's birthday was on Thursday. There is a large portion of you guys out there who consider yourself a “Hobbyists”. There is absolutely nothing wrong with being a hobbyist who loves photography and may or may not be looking to make some money with their photos. Before the show I put out the call for hobbyists to ask me all the questions on their mind. The response was insane with over 350 questions coming over night. Many of them were very basic and others though basic were pinpointed at a specific topic which is great. There were so many fantastic questions this week that I know will help a lot of you out there. I knew this RAWtalk was going to go overtime but I wanted to make sure I answered as many questions as possible. So sit back, learn and enjoy this 2+ Hour edition of FroKnowsPhoto RAWtalk. To get your FREE “See The World” card and Bag Tag please go to info.plasticprinters.com/fro and fill out the form. Remember this is US only. SAN FRAN MOBILE RAWTALK INFO. I have decided that the RAWtalk will be on Saturday August 16th possibly starting at Noon in Santa Rosa. As of now I don’t have a sign up page but you can e mail me at jared at FroKnowsPhoto dot com with subject line SAN FRAN RAWtalk and I will keep you posted.

RAWtalk Photography #095: I Am SO EMO Right Now
Isn’t it always nice to get home from being away? I know a lot of people love being away but for me, I don’t like being away for to long. The key to my happiness is never stopping, when I stop, I become less happy. Many of you know I was out in Seattle on CreativeLIVE putting in 15-18 hour days and still it felt like a vacation to me. Well, now we are home at the loft and crushing another RAWtalk Episode. I must say, when we finished this weeks show we all sat there and said that was a good one. Of course you never know how it really went until you release it into the wild. Are you in London or Cologne Germany and can help with Mobile RAWtalk? If so please e mail me at Jared at FroKnowsPhoto.com with the subject line Mobile RAWtalk Help. I am looking for help in finding the locations, helping with the show and someone to correspond with people who are signing up. In my opinion there are a million different tripod companies all of which are creating pretty much the same tripods. Recently when I was at AllensCamera.com they had in stock the BENRO tripods and video tripods. I decide to try one out and liked it. When I like something I call the company to see if they will send me a test unit so I can see if I should recommend it to you. In this case I really liked the video monopod for the price and functions that it offered. Stephen hits you right in the face with more photo news before we CRUSH the flying solo questions that came in this week.

LIVE FROM SEATTLE It's FroKnowsPhoto Mobile RAWtalk #094
Yes you read that right, Stephen and I recorded our very first Mobile RAWtalk in front of a LIVE Studio Audience. Forty handpicked guests crowded into Studio A over at CreativeLIVE to listen to Stephen and I record a RAWtalk. I must say that having a LIVE Studio Audience made the show a million times better. The interactions with the studio took everything to an entirely new level. The best part is when I tell a joke and people actually laugh or on the flip side you say something that falls totally flat and you hear crickets. We ran the show pretty similar to how we run it here at the loft which means Stephen broke out the Photo News and I spent the time interrupting him. We did gear of the week which was the NEW Atomos Ninja STAR which is only $299 and will be finding it’s way into our mobile RAWtalk kit bag. Being that we don’t have a mobile Wheel of FRO we decide to pre record the wheel spinning and played it back on a TV for the entire ROOM to see. This weeks spinner was our new friend Trevor who acted as our Sutter this week. He reset the cameras and passed out the microphone for the Flying Solo Portion where members of the audience could hit me with some Q and A. Oh yea, the wheel landed on……. Stephen and I can not thank everyone who drove from near and far to join us for the very first FroKnowsPhoto Mobile RAWtalk. A huge thank you goes out to CreativeLIVE for allowing us to use their studio and a special thanks goes to Aaron from CreativeLIVE for busting is hump to make sure we had everything we needed. My goal is to take RAWtalk mobile as often as possible. I think you may all agree that this was the BEST RAWtalk EVER!!!!!

You've Just Been TinTyped: RAWtalk Photography Episode #093
What goes into capturing images like it was 1850 all over again? I’ll tell you, a whole lot of knowledge, caustic chemicals and a lot of practice. I had photographer Giles Clement in to the loft this week to talk about his love affair with tintype photography. How he got into it, how he learned what he has learned and his thoughts on the future of the medium. Yes, I asked if it is being ruined by the easy access to everything that is needed to make tintype images. Giles knows his stuff and I asked him to stick around for a 5 Min Portrait using one of his 8x10 view cameras. That video was a lot of fun to make and I can not wait to share it with you. If you would like to contact Giles for his services you can contact him on his Squarespace site http://www.gilesclement.com/ . This week was loaded with a ton of Photo News stories that Mr Stephen Eckert brought to life. There were some interruptions, some singing and a whole lot of fun. Don’t forget I will be heading to Seattle to be on CreativeLIVE to teach a class on Low Light Photography starting Thursday July 10th until July 12th. This is a FREE class as long as you tune in to the live broadcast. While in Seattle we will be attempting our very first Mobile RAWtalk with a LIVE studio audience. I hope you will be able to join my class. I want to thank AllensCamera.com for their continued support, RODE Microphones for the killer audio gear we use, Atomos for our digital recorders and you.

RAWtalk 092: Sometimes the BEST questions are the hardest to answer
I often put the call out for “Flying Solo” questions and generally a large portion of them have something to do with camera gear. Those questions do have place but I think the hard hitting questions tend to be the best ones. Sometimes the best questions are the hardest to answer. Questions that make me think or challenge something are the ones that bring out the best answers. Asking vague questions like “when do I know it’s time to go pro” are not exactly hard hitting. Whereas the more pointed questions have a better chance of getting answered. I am sure you are curious as to what those questions would sound like. You won’t have to wait to long as I made sure to select some of the harder hitting questions this week. Please keep the questions coming when I put out the call, your questions are helping not just me but other readers who probably are thinking the same thing. Just remember that I probably won’t be answering the questions related to "what lens should I buy" or “how do I make money”. But if you think it out and it’s hard hitting and to the point, there is a better chance it will get answered. Stephen came to the table this week with a fully loaded arsenal of photo related stories. We showcased the NEW DJI Phantom 2+ as our gear of the week. And we unveiled the NEW Wheel Of Fro graphics that a FRO reader was kind enough to send designs over for. There was also a little side step question that related to “What makes a good business card”. Sam Green was here and showcased his “Plastic” business card that he picked up at http://www.plasticprinters.com/ which I am in the process of testing out as we speak. I want to thank RODE for the microphones and arms that we use each and every week. I also want to thank http://www.Atomos.com for their continued support and finally AllensCamera.com for being there since day one. Don’t forget to ask for the FroPrice when you give Allens a call. Thank you guys and enjoy the show!!!
