Empowering Victims & Perpetrators (Mere Mortals Episode #62 - Restorative Justice)
Is there a better, utilitarian form of administering justice than the system of retributive justice? In this themed episode Juan and Kyrin discuss the topic of 'Restorative Justice'. The basic principle of restorative justice is to repair the harm caused by criminal behaviour, rather than the retributive justice system of ensuring that people get what they deserve (i.e., punishment). This usually involves a meeting between the victim and offender with the aim of making amends for the harm and enabling reintegration of the parties into their communities. As part of the discussion the Mere Mortals crew also dive into: real life examples of how restorative justice is applied, whether the principle benefit is for the victim or offender, the empathetic requirements for the system to actually work and some reasons downsides of its application. The Wim Hof Method & Cold Showers (Mere Mortals Episode #61 - Meanderings)
Are you actually challenging yourself, or just think you are? In this episode of Meanderings Juan and Kyrin dive into the icy cold topic of the Wim Hof Method. For those who are unaware, Wim Hof is a beautifully insane dutch man known as the Ice Man, who invented a breathing technique that allows him to endure cold (but also heat) well beyond what is considered normal. Kyrin has recently started practising this method, as well as facing his mortal enemy, the cold.In the second half of the session the Beanie Crew start to bounce topics a bit, going from electric cars that can last 1,000,000 miles, the glorious smell of petrol and detergent, the best way to spend $5 and Guatemalan death trap Chicken Buses. Purely Existing To Continuous Elation (Mere Mortals Episode #60 - Musings)
How can one move from being in a state of purely existing to one of continuous elation? In this episode of Musings Juan and Kyrin discuss this question as well as: what is your own personal philosophy (or set of rules to live by), feeling the negative more strongly than the positive, how much as an individual one should pay attention to apocalyptic risks and providing principles rather than a personal story to those who ask for advice. Supplementation - 4M's Episode #27
To supplement or not to supplement, that is the question. In today's Mere Mortal Monday Movement we look at the topic our hand in our last themed podcast discussion. Key to our discussion was the need to treat supplements as what they should be, ehancements of the basic natural levels that us as mere mortals all have and can influence through basic foundations such as sleep, nutrition, fitness and a settled mind. As always, enjoy.Connect with Mere Mortals:Website: https://www.meremortalsmedia.com/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/mere_mortals_media/Twitter: https://twitter.com/MortalsMereFacebook: https://facebook.com/MeremortalsmediaSupport the show

The Additional Enhancement (Mere Mortals Episode #59 - Supplements)
What's the purpose of supplements, to cover for deficiencies, enhance beyond the norm, or both? In this episode Juan and Kyrin discuss the topic of 'Supplements'. This conversation largely concentrates on supplementation in the fitness world, but touches upon taking supplements for health reasons and the debate of what is 'natural'.Both Mere Mortals give an account of their own experiences using supplements, with the intriguing adventure of Juan in the Supplement Den and creating Supplement Land. They also explore the safety aspect, quality control and determining intention before finishing off with people who went too far in either direction (taking too much & too little). The Ethics of Pain Management (Mere Mortals Episode #57 - Pain)
Where does the responsibility of doctors lie, to reduce short-term pain or to increase the probability of long-term rehabilitation? This is one of the questions Juan and Kyrin ponder in this themed episode of 'Pain'. There can be many types of physical pain (psychogenic, phantom, acute, chronic, etc.,) as well as the addition of emotional pain (i.e,. pain not caused by an unpleasant physical sensation conveyed by sensory neurons). Some of the others topics we touch upon were: treating pain through bullshit methods (that actually work due to the placebo effect), the worst pain we personally have experienced, whether the world would be a better place with more or less pain and some mental techniques that can be used to take the emotional edge of pain. Pain is inevitable, suffering is optional. As always, we hope you enjoy, Mere Mortals out!Support the show
