John Plumley is the host of The Plumley Podcast (formerly the JP Bar Podcast) as well as a creator on YouTube. John lives in Calgary, Alberta and has only recently dove into the world of podcasting and online creation. Craving, Suffering & Gratitude (Episode #100 - Buddhism)
What are the essential teachings Buddhism and how much do the Mere Mortal ascribe to them? In this episode Juan and Kyrin discuss the topic of 'Buddhism'. Neither had particularly dived into religion before so the first third of the conversation was a summary of the background knowledge and general teachings of The Buddha. The crew then brings it to a personal level and talk about: the benefits and things that strike us as wise, some comparisons to other religions and where it differs (or is similar), some thought experiments of how their lives would be different if they were born into the religion or what experience it would take to become a convert, before finally ending the discussion on the debate of monism vs dualism. BRENDAN JAYO | Mere Mortals Interview # 022
Brendan Jayo is a personal trainer and balance coach specialising in hand & arm balancing. Kyrin first met Brendan in his local calisthenics park and the connection was immediate. They are both obsessed with a mutual passion for calisthenics but also drawn into obscure philosophical discussions and this conversation was no different. They start off with a chat about internet rabbit holes before meandering through NLP, straddle planches and parenting almost all in one sentence. The middle of the convo had some fun stories such as intentionally avoiding traffic lights for no gain, weird family moments and random pick up artists in the Brisbane area. The end drifted towards meditation, acting in accordance with your true self as well as the wisdom to be found after unnecessary journeys.
