The fearful ego would have us hide out, hold back, and keep our hearts closeted and safe. Christmas is a time to reassess what really matters in life and to rededicate ourselves sharing the best within us.

The holiday season, more so than any other time, brings the Spirit of the past, present, and what is yet to come, together. When we reject any of the lessons they teach, we can repeat many of the same mistakes. But when we embrace and fully realize their lessons, we have a real and true experience of eternity.

Are you embracing the holiday with anticipation and excitement or with woe and annoyance? If it's the latter, you may be suffering from Scrooge Syndrome. Symptoms may include grunting when you hear that Christmas song again or rolling your eyes after hearing how much money someone spent on a toy for their child, only for the box to be enjoyed. There is a cure for Scrooge Syndrome—it is a realization of the deeper meaning of the holiday, available to awaken in us all.

We are constantly being pushed and pulled in different directions by the forces around us. The extreme agendas of the left and right dominate our political and social discourse and keep us tuned in to a drama of constant conflict. But there is another way of moving through life—by staying connected with the center of our being where Spirit lives and awaits our recognition and offers guidance through any difficulty.
