Helene Knoop on Copying Masterworks in Italy and the Importance of Clichés and Androgynity

After studying with Odd Nerdrum in the early 2000s, Knoop devoted her time to the frescoes of Pompeii and Antique sculptures. Spending a year in Italy, she copied masterworks in public collections, and shares her experiences. She talks about the importance of androgyny, clichés - and why you should paint self-portraits. This conversation was hosted by Jan-Ove Tuv, and was produced by Bork S. Nerdrum, with assistance from Sebastian Salvo and Cassander Straumsgaard. The centerpiece was the painting "Clio" by Helene Knoop. SHOUTOUT to our TOP SPONSORS! Religious Zealots have RETURNED — Want To Purify Art Academies by Racial Segregation and Iconoclasm

In Sweden, a student group called «Brown Island» feels the presence of a majority of middle class, white students is «problematic». Its members are also traumatized by the name of the exhibition space at The Art Academy. As it turns out, the white walls of «The White Sea» are soaked in racism (a lot of white people have been in the room throughout the years). A «sin of the skin» easily proven by swapping empiricism, reason and rational arguments for emotional and subjective interpretations. In Denmark, a group lead by a professor threw a cast of a former king in the harbour, protesting past slave trade. Though fired from her job, the professor is supported by art world representatives. To understand this phenomenon, Jan-Ove Tuv turns to Catherine Nixey´s book «The Darkening Age. The Christian Destruction of The Classical World». What began as «political activism» gradually turned into state politics, and the destruction of culture. If we do not push back, we are indeed (re)entering a darkening age. Third Wave Feminists Seek to Control What Collectors Buy — Want To Destroy Your Livelihood

A feminist pledge seeks to correct the gender imbalance of museums, foundations and private collections. It is backed up by an organization representing over 100 culture-related organizations. However, their «fairness» hides a core tenet of Critical Theory: objective knowledge does not exist, but is merely "a male, Eurocentric construct". In the end, Critical Theory will only amplify the core principles of Fine Art in a shared zeal to end all ideas of meritocracy. Third-wave feminism will not catapult female classical-figurative painters into accepted collections. In Social Justice rhetoric they suffer from "false consciousness" and have "internalized the male gaze". The good news is: in Europe people are reacting to CT, also from the left. It is of vital importance that we know what Fine Art and Critical Theory is. The future of culture depends upon it. Books referred to in this Cave Comment and that may well save your life: Larry Shiner: "The Invention of Art" Pluckrose/Lindsay: "Cynical Theories" "Cave Comments" applies an archetypical perspective to current culture, excavating underlying principles. The Squander Ombudsman Reveals how Artists Waste Your Money Through a Corrupt Bureaucracy

The anonymous person behind the social media account "The Squander Ombudsman" (Sløseriombudsmannen) has become a national phenomenon in Norway, counting over 60.000 followers on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Sl%C3%B8seriombudsmannen-271396979737547/ With a focus on public squandering, state support of the arts is indeed a natural topic for him — revealing friendships and political activism under the guise of "culture". His own activities have even made him a topic of discussion at The Culture Council of Norway, and subject of international news coverage. *** This conversation was hosted by Jan-Ove Tuv and was produced by Bork S. Critical Theory creates Art 2.0, attempting the Final Deathblow to Culture — How do we fight it?

Critical Theory-zealots are vying for complete «Cultural Hegemony», introducing utopian demands for moral purity. All ideas of objectivity and quality are under attack. Jan-Ove Tuv explains how The National Academy of Art in Norway is being criticized for not being «woke» enough. The situation is far from idiosyncratic. Indeed, it is indicative of a global phenomenon. If we do not fight back, we are choosing authoritarian nepotism and the death of "creative freedom". In short: the end of «making it» as an outsider within the field of culture. "Cave Comments" applies an archetypical perspective to current culture, excavating underlying principles. Conservatives have Neglected Culture, Opening the Doors to Critical Theory

Ironically, conservatives have become the new marxists by focusing all their attention on materialistic values, such as a good income, gadgets like the iPhone, and "progress". But by taking culture for granted, they have left a vacuum, now being replaced by Critical Theory. This is a 10 minute preview of an episode from the Dark Flame series.
