Best of ‘22 - 6 quick questions with Rowena Bird, Founder of Lush (Part 2)
Today we are learning from Rowena Bird, Co-Founder of Lush Cosmetics. A business that started 27 years ago in Poole, the UK.Since 1995, Lush has been a trailblazer in the cosmetics industry. From inventing bath bombs and creating new, innovative products to fighting animal testing and ethical campaigning, it’s come a long way since its humble beginnings. Lush’s journey is ongoing. And as it continues to grow and evolve in ways that keep breaking new ground in the cosmetics industry, it’s a journey that is so interesting to dig into.In this episode we chat about the importance of hiring people smarter than you, building organic growth and word-of-mouth into the business, and what led LUSH to make the drastic decision to come off social media, as well as a golden tip when it comes to the financial side of things. When it gets to the people piece, Rowena shared some real wisdom. Talking about the people you’re building this with, the people you’re facing every day, it’s important to genuinely like and respect them. Not just for your sake, but for all parties involved. At the end of the day, if you’re not looking forward to talking to someone you might not be opening up to issues in the business. And that’s obviously an issue. In everything from your co-founders, to your investor relations and the people you hire, business continues to be all about relationships and people. I know you’re going to absolutely LOVE this episode.LINKS WE MENTION:Lush’s WebsiteLush's TwitterTED WebsiteJoin thousands of small business owners who are reading our newsletter every Monday at: www.femalestartupclub.comJoin our tool and private community for small business owners, Majic [formerly known as Hype Club]Female Startup Club's InstagramDoone's InstagramDoone's TikTokSay hello to Doone: hello@femalestartupclub.com📱 Join 160K smart chicks in the Female Startup Club universe→ Apply to join our inner circle: https://apply.femalestartupclub.com/apply→ Female Startup Club's Instagram: www.instagram.com/femalestartupclub→ Doone Roisin's Instagram: www.instagram.com/dooneroisin→ Get opportunities delivered to your inbox here: https://female-startup-club.beehiiv.com/ Hosted on Acast. Best of ‘22 - 6 quick questions with Nadya Okamoto, Founder of August (Part 2)
Today we’re learning from Nadya Okamoto, the founder of August, the lifestyle period brand that makes sustainable period care that actually works. Nadya is one of those women that is impossible not to be impressed by and excited about, she’s a Harvard grad, author, speaker, NGO founder, gen z marketing agency founder and now august as well as a Tiktoker that’s grown to 4.1 million followers. Crazy stuff. The gem in this episode is when she steps through her thoughts on Tiktok. It’s pretty crazy! We also touch on the importance of building a hyper-inclusive hyper-diverse community (all whilst maintaining a special sense of intimacy), growing slowly and thoughtfully and ensuring your cost of acquisition stays as low as possible. I love Nadya’s key piece of mental health advice, centred all around taking time to really take care of yourself. You have to take care of yourself so you can really sustain your energy. Speaking of which, sleep is everything! And that’s something I can get behind. Being better about taking time to not think about your company is so important. Spending time with the people you love, that’s what will remind you: “this is what I feel so fulfilled doing.” Having that space to be re-ground yourself is so key because you’re able to come back to your work with a new refound trust in your instincts. That’s what you need in leadership. To trust your gut. You have to be making big decisions, but if you have trust in yourself and what your values are you feel much more empowered in making them. 6 quick questions with Parisa Fowles-Pazdro, Founder of The Maxbone (Part 2)
This is Parisa Fowles-Pazdro for Female Startup Club.Welcome back to the show - it’s Doone here, your host and hype girl. On the show today we’re talking with Parisa Fowles-Pazdro - the founder of Maxbone.Parisa spent a vibrant childhood growing up in Iran until the war forced her parents to leave for Sweden to start over with nothing. It was during this time she got the drive to succeed and started her journey to give her parents back everything that they lost. First by working 3 jobs to save enough money for a condo and using that to climb the property ladder and then by tapping into her unique design sensibility to start a business. Parisa recognized that the lack of high-quality products and elevated shopping experience were gaps in the pet market she could fill. Parisa built Maxbone to become a community-driven pet and lifestyle company, and continues to grow a successful team to build upon that vision, culminating in a strong market experience that creates a cultured, current, and loved brand. This is such an inspiring and open conversation especially around the topic of raising investment and what it truly means to go down that pathway in the VC world with plenty of advice you can take for yourself. You’ll also love the part where we break down partnerships and how you can replicate this blueprint in your own business. But just quickly before we jump into this episode, I’m wondering if you’ve joined our new tool and private community for small business owners called Majic? It’s launched just this week and we’re accepting founding members on the founding members rates. You’ll be able to meet women like Parisa in intimate workshops as well as like minded founders building the future of DTC brands. Once you sign up you’ll be able to book your 1-1 call with me so I can get up to speed with where you are in the journey. I’m so excited and I can’t wait to meet you and hear about what you’re up to! If you’ve got any questions just shoot me over an email to hello@femalestartupclub.com!Let’s get into this episode, this is Parisa for Female Startup Club.LINKS WE MENTIONMaxbone's InstagramParisa's InstagramJoin thousands of small business owners who are reading our newsletter every Monday at: www.femalestartupclub.comJoin our tool and private community for small business owners, Majic [formerly known as Hype Club]Female Startup Club's InstagramDoone's InstagramDoone's TikTokSay hello to Doone: hello@femalestartupclub.com📱 Join 160K smart chicks in the Female Startup Club universe→ Apply to join our inner circle: https://apply.femalestartupclub.com/apply→ Female Startup Club's Instagram: www.instagram.com/femalestartupclub→ Doone Roisin's Instagram: www.instagram.com/dooneroisin→ Get opportunities delivered to your inbox here: https://female-startup-club.beehiiv.com/ Hosted on Acast.
