The explosive rise of automation and artificial intelligence are creating an ever-widening disparity in wealth and income. We're moving rapidly toward an era of a clearly stratified society with a wide gap between the haves and the have-nots. Everyone is planting their flag on some sort of existing economic system, whether communism or socialism or capitalism or fascism. As everyone starts reverting to their respective tribes, the cultural ties that served as the foundation for the existing globalized economy have begun to fracture. History demonstrates clearly that smaller, cohesive, ideologically homogenous cultures are always the most stable. So it's an easy prediction that we are likely to move back toward that type of stasis. We don't know what our economic future will look like. No matter what, we can always know that those who have wealth, power, and influence will always be better off than those who don't.

Some poor third-world nation is going to realize that there are boatloads of wealthy people who are fed up with the incompetence and corruption in the governments of so-called first-world nations. These people would LOVE the opportunity to transplant themselves into what's basically a startup nation in the form of a privatized city government. Well, we've been proven right again. A company called Próspera is building their own private city on the island of Roatán, off the coast of Honduras. This is a fascinating experiment that is sure to be just the first of many like it. They have a unique approach to funding ("taxation") and dispute resolution ("laws"). Today, we'll break it all down for you guys.

She's proposing a new wealth tax that would purloin 2% annual tax on households and trusts with a net worth north of $50 million and a 1% surtax on households with a net worth above $1 billion. But that's not it. If you get fed up with the grabby hands in your pockets and you decide to leave the land of the free and the home of the brave for less confiscatory pastures, she's gonna get her pound of flesh out of you in the form of a "captivity tax" of FORTY PERCENT of your net worth over $50 million. If you don't already control the source of a mobile income that can travel with you no matter where you go, you'd better start working in that direction. At this point, the writing's been on the wall for years, and you'll only have yourself to blame if you wind up getting caught in scams like these.

Rent control advocates claim they want to help the poor. But if you want to get a good idea of who benefits most from rent control policies, just do a cross-reference of the cities with the most "progressive" rent control policies and cities with the highest housing costs in America. It's basically the same list. You might think that landlords will make out like bandits. But it's really only the most wealthy and entrenched landlords who truly benefit. Which typically means the most corporate interests. In a country where so many people complain so much about "the rich getting richer," somehow every policy proposal aimed at addressing wealth inequalities results in the rich getting richer. Seems like a good place to be rich!
