Isolation at the Top, The 3 Crucial Support Categories & Thriving as a Non-Exec ChairmanWith the right kinds of support and input, NECs can help themselves to thrive and succeed in the role; for the good of the business, the Board and themselves. In this episode I explore this, and pass on a bit of the wisdom shared with me by NECs a few years ago during the research phase of my eBook ‘Autonomy in Relationship - the Human Side of Being a Non-Exec Chairman’.  Non-exec Chairmen are mature, experienced and capable people. They are relatively self-sufficient and able to manage all sorts of challenges. And - they are human beings who benefit from a bit of assistance. Some of this assistance they can provide for themselves. Some of it is more effectively drawn from others. Consciousness, Higher Self & EvolutionI don’t know if you've ever come across a book called the I Ching, which I believe was written originally in Chinese. I've got an English translation here by Brian Brown Walker, and in the front of this book there's a quote which I really like:“The only true aristocracy is that of Consciousness.” DH LawrenceDH Lawrence was an English writer, novelist, poet and essayist. His works reflect on modernity, industrialisation, sexuality, emotional health, vitality, spontaneity and instinct. His best-known novels—Sons and Lovers, The Rainbow, Women in Love, and Lady Chatterley's Lover— were the subject of censorship trials.Of course, at the time when he was writing, using a word like aristocracy was completely cool.  It meant elite, what we aspire to, what we admire. Nowadays, the use of the word aristocracy is not nearly as acceptable or PC.  I read DH’s quote to a friend of mine the other day and he said: “So what you're saying is - Consciousness is the pinnacle of the whole shebang?”.  Exactly.  Here’s another quote:“The next stage of our evolution as a species, is the evolution of our Consciousness." Me… and that's why I decided to make that my life mission - to serve the evolution of human consciousness.  Presumptuous?  Perhaps.  I like it.So welcome to 2023.
