This week on Beyond Clean we speak with Harry Mullen, Manager of Sterile Processing at Riverside University Health System and Director of Operations for Central Sterilization Solutions. He has over 33 years in the medical and sterile processing field. In 2011, He started Central Sterilization Solutions (CSS) along with his partner James Hoxie to teach the CRCST course for technicians desiring a true career in SPD. They have experienced an increase in the average pass rate going from a 65% average to 95% on the technicians first attempt. CSS has also contracted with SPD departments to help hospitals with issues identified by the joint commission and other accreditation organizations, correct the deficiencies, and obtain clearance upon re-inspection. CSS is in the process of creating course curriculums for the CIS, CHL and CER certifications. Dr. Wilder has worked with all thermal and chemical sterilization methods, as well as cleaning and disinfection methodologies, bringing his background in physical chemistry and surface physics to bear upon difficult problems in the field. He has been published in academic and trade journals. He holds an MBA in Technology Management. He has been an active participant in AAMI sterilization standards committees since 1998 and, as of January 2018, is the co-chair of the US standards-making committee for hospital steam sterilizers.
