The UnSunday Show
Mike Adams
The UnSunday Show asks honest questions about the origin and validity of institutional church rules, traditions, and practices. These religious rules and practices lead us away from the simplicity of the gospel and into an exhausting performance-based experience that is designed to perpetuate itself by placing ever increasing demands on its people and are of no value in Christ. If you're exhausted from trying to keep all the religious rules that have been placed on you, listen in to these conversations as we rediscover the freedom we've been given, apart from religion and empty religious obligation.

Take Five: Performance-Based Christianity
In Matthew 15 Jesus is talking to the scribes and Pharisees when he says this:"You hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy of you, when he said: ‘This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me; in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’" Matthew 15:7–9This is a description of performance-based religion. It replaces what matters with what doesn't matter. It replaces what's true (justification by faith) with what's not true (justification by faith plus works). It's a manipulation of the truth of the gospel into a non-gospel. Let's take five and talk about it.--------------Other Places You’ll Find Me:YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@unsundayshowThe Grace Cafe Podcast: https://www.gracecafepodcast.com

The Law, Fulfilled and Abolished: Did Paul and Jesus Agree?
One of the things I get pushback on from time to time is the idea that Paul was incorrect in saying that the Law was abolished and in fact, he was contradicting Jesus' words in Matthew 5 when Jesus said he didn't come to abolish the Law. I think this stems from a misunderstanding of the movement from the Old Covenant to the New Covenant in redemptive history. There are also those who just can't accept that the Law of Moses could ever be done away with. So let's take a look at Ephesians chapters 2 and 3, as well as 2 Corinthians 3 in this video. This episode is available in video format at https://youtu.be/UIh9KKvw6dc--------------Other Places You’ll Find Me:YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@unsundayshowThe Grace Cafe Podcast: https://www.gracecafepodcast.com

Take Five: Is The Holy Spirit Policing You? (133)
I used to think the Holy Spirit was convicting me of my sins. When I would leave a church service feeling bad about myself, I assigned that bad feeling to the Holy Spirit. The worse I felt after a Sunday sermon, the better I thought the sermon was because I thought the Holy Spirit was convicting me of my sin. But is that how the Holy Spirit treats a believer? Does he treat us like guilty convicts? Let's take a closer look in this episode of Take Five.--------------Other Places You’ll Find Me:YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@unsundayshowThe Grace Cafe Podcast: https://www.gracecafepodcast.com

Who Has Bewitched You? (132)
What qualifies as a false gospel? According to Paul, any mixture of law and grace. Mixing law and grace isn't neutral. It's toxic. It's deadly. Righteousness and the forgiveness of sins is by faith from first to last. It doesn't rely on me to add anything. In fact, adding my own works or contributions to grace, nullifies grace and I'm left without hope. Let's look at a few verses in Galatians.Link to the video version: https://youtu.be/HrBnyEWVJrA--------------Other Places You’ll Find Me:YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@unsundayshowThe Grace Cafe Podcast: https://www.gracecafepodcast.com

Was the Sermon on the Mount Intended for the Church? (129)
This episode is available in video on the UnSunday YouTube channel at https://youtu.be/bFNtpuVi5MgMike Kapler joins me today as we talk about the Sermon on the Mount. Were Jesus' words in Matthew 5–7 directed to believers today as behavior goals — or were they intended for Old Covenant Jews still living under the law? Before the cross, before the church existed, before the New Covenant was established — who was Jesus addressing, and why? In this conversation, we explore the covenant setting of the Sermon on the Mount and ask whether we’ve been reading church doctrine into a message that was never intended for the church. This isn’t about dismissing Jesus’ words. It’s about understanding them in context. If context helps to determine meaning, this conversation matters.Recommended book, Clash of the Covenants: https://a.co/d/0gXLYyuWYou'll find Mike Kapler and Joel Brueseke at the Growing in Grace podcast at https://www.growingingrace.org/ or on any podcast app.--------------Other Places You’ll Find Me:YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@unsundayshowThe Grace Cafe Podcast: https://www.gracecafepodcast.com

Is Hebrews 10:25 About Joining a Church? (128)
Is Hebrews 10:25 about modern church attendance or membership? Does it mean I need to be involved in church and conforming to church rules and expectations or is it referencing something else? Is it a call to belong to a religious organization or is it a call to leave religion and find true freedom in Jesus in this New Covenant? Let's put it in context and see what we can glean from it.This episode was originally recorded as a video. The Lord's Prayer In Context: Forgiving to be Forgiven? (127)
In this episode I take a look at the Lord's Prayer in response to a listener's question about the forgiveness of sins. Do we have to forgive others in order to be forgiven? And how does that fit in to what I said in a previous video about 1 John 1:9 and the forgiveness of sins? Let's put the Lord's Prayer and the Sermon on the Mount in context and see what we can conclude. This episode was recorded as a video.
