THINNING OF THE VEIL

There are times in our lives when only help from the other side of the veil can help us. The Davis Family experienced a very traumatizing event on a camping trip on July 18th of this year. Chase had a serious accident and by all accounts, should have died. However, Shelley Davis felt a host of heavenly angels directing medical personnel and protecting her son, who made a full recovery. Shelley testifies that some of those angels were those who she had done temple work for. The power of the priesthood on both sides of the veil, made sure that Chase not only survived but is thriving. In a general conference talk in October of 1972, Elder Burton addressed the importance of each person, old or young, to participate in temple and family history work. It is a priesthood responsibility, Elder Burton even calling it, "Priesthood genealogy". He also teaches one of the meanings of the earth would be and will be smitten with a curse if we do not personally participate. He points the importance of saving our own ancestors and that when we do we fulfill ancient prophecy. Information gathering is critical when doing genealogical work. FamilySearch has a massive data base of a lot of different kinds of information. However, each individual has information that has not yet been input into the FamilySearch system. One of the worst tragedies in life is to lose a child. In this episode we learn through a thinning of the veil experience, that even that immense pain and hurt are healed by our Heavenly Father and the Savior through temple work. One of the many miracles of the Gathering of Israel is that relationships that were once lost on this side of the veil, are made right at the holy altars of the temples. Brother Andy White, a convert to the church has been pulled to the Gathering of Israel ever since becoming a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Through out his journey of gathering his ancestors into the fold, he has seen many manifestations and experienced many miracles. One of those miracles is that he has developed a deeper relationship with his daughter who passed when she was very young. He testifies that temple work does indeed help to heal the grief of losing a loved one. We are taught that our bodies are temples. What does that mean and what are the blessings associated with treating our bodies as temples? In 2005, Carol Wilkinson, a BYU professor, wrote an article about these very questions. Using scriptures and citations of prophets, she teaches how we can be conduits of revelation, the same as the latter day temples that we physically enter to do temple work. D&C 109 certainly lays out the process and blessings associated with being a savior upon Mount Zion, and the effect that that work can have on our bodies. If we will treat our bodies as the tabernacle of God's that they are, we will find great treasures of hidden knowledge. Does the ministering of angels really happen in one's life? In D&C 130 verse 5, we learn that angels that minister to this earth are "those who do belong or have belonged to it." Most often the angels that are involved in our lives are our ancestors who love us and who have gone before. They understand the perils and traumas that we currently face and are heavily involved in aiding us along the way. Angels can bring messages of comfort and peace, messages of instruction, and most assuredly physical protection. Connie Measom experienced powerful priesthood protection from heaven sent ancestors during the Indianola Fire in Utah. Heaven is cheering us on. Urim and Thummim in Hebrew means, "lights and perfections". Within the context of the restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ, we find added meaning to the most often used definition of a Urim and Thummim, being and instrument to translate languages. In the Endowment ceremony we find additional powers and insights to another meaning and use of a Urim and Thummim. We see in the pattern of the Brother of Jared, Aaron and his sons, and other scriptural patterns, that our bodies, as we gather Israel, can also become a type of Urim and Thummim as we enter into covenantal relationship with the Savior in the temple. In the latter days, Zion will come and those who reside in that Holy City will be revelatory beings of light patterned after their Savior, Jesus Christ, who will personally preside and reside in that sacred city. In the work of the Gathering of Israel, we all have our parts to do and accomplish before the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.
