Micah Pearson is Putting Mental Health into a New Perspective. Literally.

Hey Idiots! This week, I'm joined by artist and NAMI Board Member/Peer Support Supervisor Micah Pearson to discuss how he took his own struggle with having Bipolar Disorder and not only used it to help others navigate their own mental health journeys, but started creating some incredible art pieces that represent how it feels to live with certain mental health diagnoses. This was such an amazing conversation where I learned so much about Micah and NAMI! And what it means to have Bipolar Disorder, some interesting facts about a few other diagnoses and how to phrase things correctly so you aren't being harmful when speaking to someone about their mental health. If you want to hear the ADDITIONAL HOUR PLUS of this conversation, head over to Patreon.Need resources for dealing with your own mental health or to help someone you love? Go to NAMI.orgCheck out Micah's Art and buy a print! This episode is a part of my BIPOC Mental Health Awareness Month Series, helping to raise awareness on the need for mental illness care and awareness in minority communities. It was originally all going to be released in the same week but because all the interviews were so great and so important, they definitely needed a full week of their own to be promoted and consumed/Enjoy and share so we can spread the word together!Join the Ignorance is #Blessed Patreon to hear the remaining 20 minutes of this interview and get hot bonus content! Explaining Anxiety to Your Filipino Father with Sapphire Sandalo

Hey Idiots! My guest this week is Sapphire Sandalo! She's a wonderfully talented animator, host, actress, (everything creative pretty much! She rocks it all!) and she hosts a great podcast called "Stories with Sapphire!"Sapphire's parents are from the Philippines and there's a cultural gap in understanding anxiety and other mental health issues that people struggle with between them and most American born people our age. We discussed the misunderstanding and how she's worked to help them be part of the conversation (or at least attempted and learned when to just accept there's going to be a difference in understanding) and how she's overcome invalidating her own experiences just because they're so different from her parents experience. It was a great chat and she's an absolute delight! Enjoy! This episode is a part of my BIPOC Mental Health Awareness Month Series, helping to raise awareness on the need for mental illness care and awareness in minority communities. Hope for the Future: How MAPS is Working to Help PTSD Patients with MDMA (With guest Matt Neal)

Hey Idiots!I'm back in gear with one of my favorite people on the LA comedy scene, Matt Neal. He's a rad guy and I've known him since my early LA comedy days. He's easy to talk to and happens to be involved with MAPS which is on the forefront of psychedelic therapy research. We talked all about how he got involved and how they're changing the prognosis of PTSD patients for the better with MDMA.There's so much that goes into getting things like this legal and he walks me through the process and what the research has shown so far. It's a really cool chat about something that has eluded many mental health professionals for so long, and the key might have been right in front of us this whole time. Holding a glow stick, probably.Enjoy!Follow Matt on Twittermaps.orgMichael Pollan - How to Change Your Mindhttps://michaelpollan.com/books/how-to-change-your-mind/The Manual of Psychedelic Support - https://maps.org/resources/responding-to-difficult-psychedelic-experiences/5529-the-manual-of-psychedelic-supportRick Doblin Ted Talk:He explains the protocols and how everything works and the history very well here...https://www.ted.com/talks/rick_doblin_the_future_of_psychedelic_assisted_psychotherapy?language=enTim Ferriss Capstone Challenge Matching Fundhttps://tim.blog/2020/06/16/maps-capstone-challenge-mdma-ptsd/Join the Ignorance is #Blessed Patreon to hear the remaining 20 minutes of this interview and get hot bonus content!
