When we first read his book, Focused Forward: Navigating the Storms of Adult ADHD, we became fast fans of James Ochoa. He writes candidly about his experience living with ADHD, struggling with ADHD, overcoming the hurdles of ADHD. But beyond that, he’s a counselor himself, working with the complex tapestries that are adults with ADHD. Today, we’re thrilled to be able to welcome James to the show to share a little bit about his own journey and to introduce us to one of the central themes in his work: the ADHD Emotional Distress Syndrome. We’re sure you’ll want to find out more about James and encourage you to pick up his book — easy and truly eye-opening reading!

Talking with others about our ADHD can be a tricky subject. If you’re not completely comfortable with your ADHD and how it affects your work and life, talking about it can be surrounded in self-judgment, even if that judgment isn’t reflected in reality. This week on the show, we have two guests and fellow podcasters to help us navigate this conversation and give you some great advice and a sound reality check on talking to others about your ADHD!
Gabriel Villarreal and Heather Clifft are the hosts of Informed Consent, a podcast designed to support and nurture incoming mental health clinicians who are in the trenches. Heather is a Licensed Professional Counselor specializing in anxiety, trauma, family transitions, and counselor supervision. Gabriel is a Resident in Counseling and soon to be Licensed Practicing Counselor, providing therapy at his practice ADHD Counseling, he’s also a coach at his gym, LostBoys Strength and Conditioning. Both join us from Roanoke, Virginia.

Bob “Dr. Mac” LeVitus is a well-known authority on all things Macintosh, OS X, and Apple devices. He’s been one of the Apple community’s most trusted advisors for almost thirty years, helping regular folks confidently wade the complex waters of their gear. He's written more than 80 books and, for the past 20 years, he's written the Dr. Mac column for the Houston Chronicle and The Mac Observer for almost as long.
With his latest book, “Working Smarter for Mac Users,” Bob let’s us in on a new part of his life — that he was diagnosed with ADHD as an adult, and that diagnosis fundamentally changed the way he approaches productivity at the computer.
It’s a pretty wide-ranging interview, moving from productivity hacks to specific apps, to the hardware that Bob uses to write his books and courses every day!

As some parts of the country are just cresting back-to-school season, most of us are languishing in the final days of a hot summer. If you’ve been industrious at all, the projects you really want to have taken on are likely done. But what about the last few undesirables? You know those projects that take the extra push because you don’t want to do them, the environment isn’t conducive to doing them, and you’re exhausted from all the other great stuff you’ve been doing — and living with ADHD makes tackling those projects so much harder!
This week on the show, we’ve got some ideas for getting out of the rut to get one last project wrapped before the summer ends.

Making Transitions with ADHD!
Grab the Declutter Guide ... FREE! Visit https://takecontroladhd.com/adhd-declutter and get a head start on your toughest spaces today!--- Thank you for supporting The ADHD Podcast on Patreon! — https://patreon.com/theadhdpodcast
We’re back after our July break and talking all about transitions today. Wading through change can be tough on anyone, but when you’re living with ADHD, integrating new behaviors can be much more difficult.
And while we might normally think of “transitions” as the big seasonal changes that come at us a few times a year, don’t forget the smaller “state changes” we adjust to daily; waking up in the morning and adjusting to the day, or going to bed at night to ensure healthy sleep are just as challenging for some ADHD brains. What do you do to make it through your daily, weekly, and even less frequent transitions?
