AI vs Education: AI is a Superpower That We Need To Tame

There’s been a bit more buzz around AI this week following an open letter signed by a group of AI experts and other high-profile figures and released by the Center for AI Safety. The open letter had only one line - “Mitigating the risk of extinction from AI should be a global priority alongside other societal-scale risks such as pandemics and nuclear war.”Now contemplating and discussing the end of the world is a bit beyond our scope here on BizBytes, but one thing is clear, AI is powerful and we shouldn’t take its power to disrupt for granted. One key example is the way AI could potentially impact the next generation of workers. The World Economic Forum's "The Future of Jobs Report 2020" predicted that 85 million jobs globally will be replaced by AI by 2025, but the same report also indicates that AI can potentially generate 97 million new roles. And this was before ChatGPT made AI mainstream. Now while on the surface it seems like we could see a net positive change in job numbers, the thing is, the types of jobs that AI will create will differ from those being lost.So in order to address the potential changes ahead when it comes to jobs and the workplace, we need to look at education today, particularly at tertiary education institutions and how they are adapting to the AI’s sudden rise - both in terms of how it impacts education today and how universities can prepare their students for changing landscape. With that in mind, on this episode of Enterprise BizBytes, we’re asking the question: how could AI influence tertiary education?Helping us with this discussion is Sanjay Sarma, CEO of the Asia School of Business.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Investing Sustainably

Investors today are seeking value beyond straight monetary returns. With mounting evidence of climate change’s impact on the lives and livelihoods of people across the world and the growing demand for social equity, investors have gotten serious about backing corporations and funds with a demonstrated commitment to environmental and social responsibility. Responsible investing has been around in one form or another for quite some time. Pacifists may choose not to invest in companies that manufacture weapons. Environmentalists may choose to invest in companies that produce durable products from natural materials. We have Rina Neoh, Partner & Co Founder of Ficus Venture Capital with its flagship RM60 million fund, Ficus SEA and the world’s first shariah compliant venture capitalist joining us later. Our question to you is “Are you more concerned about your returns when investing or do environmental and social responsible companies take precedence when deciding?”See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Malaysia’s Energy Transition: Is The Valley Of Disillusionment Avoidable?

The energy transition is gaining steam across the globe, but are end-consumers convinced of the benefits? Last year, investment in low-carbon technologies topped 1.1trillion US Dollars, with the war in Ukraine and resulting energy crisis acting as a catalyst to fast-track spending. Consulting firm EY notes that analysts say this rapid injection of capital may have shaved up to 10 years off the energy transition timeline, but their new global consumer survey indicates that consumers may not be as confident in the energy transition as policy makers and activists might be.To get a better understanding of this and what Malaysia can learn to have a better energy transition path, we’ll be speaking with Mark Bennett, EY Asia-Pacific Energy & Resources Customer Experience Transformation LeaderSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Should Storytellers and Businesses Forget About Twitter?

One key platform over the decade for businesses and storytellers to communicate and engage with potential customers and their audiences has been Twitter, however since Elon Musk bought Twitter, the social media platform has gotten plenty of attention for a range of… let’s say questionable decisions. From killing API integration of popular third party apps to changing how verified blue ticks work, the seemingly random decisions have had big influencers, storytellers, and businesses wondering whether Twitter is still a reliable way to communicate and engage with their respective audiences. To further muddy the waters of Twitter’s relevance, Instagram is reportedly working on a new competitor to Twitter with a text-based app codenamed "P92", where users would log in with their Instagram details, and the app would use decentralized servers like Discord or open-source social network Mastodon. With all these changes and potential challenges surrounding Twitter, today on BizBytes we’ve been exploring the role and relevance of Twitter and other social media platforms with Richard Ker, Chief Storyteller & Founder, Richard Ker Digital.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
