The New Grad Physio Podcast: 'Never Miss An ACL Injury'
Knee injuries are common and your ability to diagnose injuries like an ACL, MCL, LCL or PCL are vitally important,
Failure to do this and you risk putting your patients or athletes at further risk of injury and also, without a definitive diagnosis, it makes it difficult for you to manage their injury in the best possible way, resulting in poor treatment outcomes and a prolonged return to activity and sport.
In this podcast you will discover...
• Why you need to be highly competent with your knee special testing because you may only get one chance to assess a suspected unstable knee
• How to know what 'normal' end feel is and how to test it
• How your knee stability testing tells you what to do next and guides your early treatment, especially your decision whether to brace the knee or not.

The New Grad Physio Podcast: 'How To Make 2020 Your Best Year Ever'
So many New Grad Physio’s start the year with big aspirations about what they want to achieve over the next 12 months.
This might be to spend more time on CPD, learn a particular skill-set, gain better working hours and more responsibility, gain that next promotion or even transition from one area of therapy to another.
Whatever that goal might be, MOST New Grad’s will NOT achieve these goals.
To find out why this is happening and what you need to do instead to kick-start your own successful year, accelerate your learning and career and achieve your goals you can NOT afford to miss this podcast.
Enjoy the show.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on this topic and what you have planned for this year. Please get in touch at andy@newgradphysio.com and I’ll get right back to you.

The New Grad Physio Podcast: 'Shoulder Dislocation To Grand Final Winner In 7 Days'
How was a pro rugby player with a posteriorly dislocated shoulder, that required a general anesthetic to relocate and a high severity of damage to his shoulder as a result, able to get back to play in just 7 days?
In episode #20 you will find out how, as I detail what we did at each and every step of his accelerated rehab plan to get him back on the field, play the full game and pick up a winners medal, in such a short space of time.
You might be surprised how we did it…
…Because it was simple.
Whilst this is an extreme example, you will be able to take the information learned in this episode to improve the treatment planning and rehabilitation of any athlete or patient that you work with.

The New Grad Physio Podcast: 'How To Prevent Hamstring Injuries'
Despite the advances in sports medicine, the vast amount of research conducted and the efforts to prevent hamstring injuries, their prevalence and re-injury rates have remained relatively similar over the last 20 years.
So, what are we missing?
In episode #19 I will discuss the big issue with hamstring injury prevention programmes and why they don’t work.
You will also discover exactly what you should be focusing your time and efforts on to try and reduce the possible occurrence of hamstring injury.
Even if you don’t work in sport or see a high number of hamstring injuries, the strategies discussed can be applied to any other overuse injury.

The New Grad Physio Podcast: 'Why A 'Simple' Lateral Ankle Injury Is Never Simple
Ankle injuries are highly prevalent, and we see them frequently in our clinics within the NHS, private practice and sport.
When managed well, patients and athletes can return to full activity quickly, having accelerated through their treatment plan.
But some continue to struggle, either through chronic ankle symptoms, or more commonly, with problems elsewhere in the body.
In episode #18 learn why even SIMPLE ankle injuries might just not be that simple and how your management of even low-level ankle injuries should change.
Learn why ankle re-injury is common and why incomplete ankle rehabilitation can be a key driver for other problems elsewhere in the body particularly groin, hamstring and even lower back pain.

The New Grad Physio Podcast: 'Why 'SCIATICA' Should Never Be Given As A Diagnosis'
I hold my own hands up and admit I gave ‘sciatica’ as a diagnosis commonly as a New Grad Physio.
Problem is, it isn’t even a diagnosis and more importantly than that, giving ‘sciatica’ as a diagnosis may be causing you to focus on the wrong problems, leading to poor treatment effects and ineffective patient outcomes.
In episode #17 learn why sciatica and other diagnoses like shoulder impingement, are poorly used and what you should focus your attention on instead.
This is a very different way of approaching the diagnosis of any injury but looking at your patient’s injury in this way will help you start getting better patient results.

The New Grad Physio Podcast: 'Why Did Nobody Tell Us About The Reality Of Life As A New Grad Physio'
In episode #16 of the New Grad Physio Podcast I will discuss the lack of awareness New Grad’s have about what life as a graduate therapist is REALLY like and why this results in overwhelm, frustration and a lack of progress during those early years after graduating.
We will cover why you need continued support when you graduate if you want to make continued improvements in your clinical practice and your ability to help your patients in a way you feel they deserve.
Getting the right support helps you overcome the challenges that every New Grad Physio faces and at the same time helps you to enjoy what you do rather than feel demotivated and lose the enthusiasm in your job so you can start to see progress in both your learning and your career.
Enjoy the show.

The New Grad Physio Podcast: 'Delivering A Great Clinical Message'
The ability to deliver a clear, concise clinical message to your patient is key to ensure your patient fully understands the problems they have, their prognosis and how their proposed treatment plan will progress.
Regardless of how great your patient assessment, hands-on treatment techniques and treatment plan might be, all this great work can be undone if you cannot get your clinical message across well.
In this podcast you will learn how to communicate better with your patients to ensure understanding and improve patient adherence to your treatment plan and at the same time be more confident speaking to other members of the MDT and senior colleagues to stop sounding like a ‘young’ and ‘inexperienced’ therapist.
Enjoy the show.

The New Grad Physio Podcast: 'Should We Be Using Manual Therapy?'
Episode #14 of the New Grad Physio Podcast will discuss the controversial topic of manual therapy.
Regardless of your current thoughts regarding manual therapy you need to listen to this podcast episode because you will discover WHY manual therapy gets a bad name.
We know that the evidence base is poor for manual therapy interventions, but it is for a lot of interventions we use as therapists.
The main reason therapists do not use manual therapy is that they lack the understanding as to what manual therapy actually does.
Most therapists (even highly experienced therapists) really do not understand why they are using manual therapy techniques and what these techniques are actually doing.
This is GAME CHANGER and once you know this, it will make your own understanding about how you can use manual therapy (if you choose to use it) in the best possible way to help your patients out of pain and through a full treatment plan.
Enjoy the show.
