085 - Amy Mandelbaum - Balancing Fitness and Life in your 50s
“I’m in pretty good shape for my age” is a crutch. It’s personal forgiveness for not being in the kind of shape you could be in. Amy Mandelbaum proves this every day. Not everyone wants to be in great shape. It’s not a major priority for everyone and that’s perfectly acceptable. The goals of some are not the goals of all. But on today’s episode Amy Mandelbaum discusses how she is a different athlete at age 51 than she was at age 20 and age 40. We go into how this multiple time CrossFit Games Athlete approaches her training and her life. “When you say ‘family first’, what does that really mean?” “How do you find time to workout with kids, a husband, a job, a house, and daily chores that need to get done?” These are the types of Amy answered today, but the way she answered them are far from your typical expected answers. Want to be in great shape for any age with the mindset that you’re just getting started? Listen to this episode with Amy Mandelbaum! Amy Can be found at: @amypistol @crossfitwestport

081 - Kristine Andali - Documenting a Major Comeback
Episode 81 - Kristine Andali is to CrossFit what Rocky Balboa was to fictional American Boxing in the 1980’s and 1990’s. She lives the famous line from Mick to Rocky “It ain’t about how hard you can hit, it’s about how hard you can get hit and keep movin’ forward!” Kristine narrowly missed the CrossFit games in 2014 when she finished third in a region that only took two athletes to the games, Canada East. The two women who finished ahead of her, one by mere seconds went on to take 1st and 4th respectively at the 2014 Games. The next year, 2015 Kristine was poised to get herself to (At the time) Carson California to compete at the CrossFit Games. But she tore her achilles in training. Fast forward to 2016 and she is the number 3 seed in the entire state of California, everyone knows this is her year… Until she tore both shoulder labrums on the regionals floor at the same time. 2 years and four surgeries later Kristine is finally back to getting in the mindset of competing again. With just one month of training she is sitting in the top 100 in the Northeast Region as this was recorded. She is on the comeback trail and this is the first interview of more than we have planned to document the mindset and the 2019 return of Kristine Andali. Kristine can be found at: @kristineAndali

080 - Dr. Sean Rockett, Is CrossFit Safe? Questions for a Renowned Orthopedic Surgeon
The safety of CrossFit as a fitness modality has been debated since people found the CrossFit.com website back in 2003. People lifting heavy weights fast and often. Athletes who find ways to bastardize classic weightlifting and gymnastic techniques for the purpose of efficiency often at the expense of technical beauty have driven many doctors to suggest CrossFit is dangerous. On this episode we speak with renowned Orthopedic Surgeon, Dr. Sean Rockett about just that. Is CrossFit safe? How does one make their experience in a CrossFit gym more safe? What risk factors are there? Why do doctors hate CrossFit? Is the traditional medical model failing us? We cover all of these topics and so many more in this episode. While Dr. Rockett was able to communicate in avery layman language on this episode, this interview is a nerd’s dream. It is an absolute must listen for any coach or doctor who sees clients in the CrossFit or fitness space. Dr. Rockett is a wealth of knowledge and an example of humility. It’s no surprise that Greg Glassman (CrossFit’s CEO) has him on speed dial and has picked Dr. Rockett to head up the medical staff at the CrossFit Games every year. Enjoy this episode and share it with your friends, especially the ones who disagree. Dr. Rockett Can be found at: @321gomd 321gomd.com

079 - Britt Ghiroli, Lessons learned gaining trust from elite professional athletes. From the Baltimore Orioles to Athlete Daily
Britt Ghiroli and her sister April Co-Founded “Athlete Daily” when the reality hit them that quality writing and great storytelling was not happening in the fitness world the way that it was in other major professional sports. In this episode Britt discusses the massive undertaking that it has been to launch a business that started as a muse in a space where she had no contacts, no connections, no inside track. While Britt could publish an article for the Baltimore Orioles that she conceived and put on the web all before lunch and get 50,000 reads, she would spend weeks researching and creating an article in this brand new space for her brand new publication only to have friends, family, and maybe a few others find it. This episode is a great story about getting things done against the odds and rebelling against what comes easy. If you want to learn how to gain access to elite athletes, how to gain trust from powerful people, and how not to start a website (Britt and April made a lot of mistakes and we definitely talk about those too), then tune into this one.
