The Case Against The Cry It Out Method with Guest Rachel from Hey Sleepy Baby
For many parents, the first six to twelve months of their baby’s life are probably one of the most stressful thanks to sleep deprivation. The emotional and physical toll of listening to your baby cry isn’t easy, but it’s important to realize that it’s just as stressful for them as their body and brain try to adjust to life outside of the womb.
For this week’s episode, I’ve invited Rachel, a pediatric sleep specialist, to share with us her experience and realizations with sleep training her baby, and how it isn’t as easy as tucking them into bed and calling it a night.
So listen in on this episode as Rachel shares her experience, and I offer ways to help ease this adjustment period!
Episode Highlights:
The Cry It Out Method and the psyche behind it
Rachel’s experience with sleep training her baby
The effects of The Cry it Out Method on a baby’s cognitive development

Presence vs. Fixing with Guest Rivkie
Change is a choice. Sometimes it may be a difficult one and requires a lot of effort. It’s also not something that can always happen in a snap, but rather takes the form of a continuous series of choices we consciously make. These choices become the path my guest takes to be better and do better as a parent.
Joining me for this week’s episode is Rivkie, a mother of seven. It’s not easy to raise that many kids but as an ex-yeller, she made the choice to become a more empathetic and connected parent to her kids. She’ll share with us her personal journey, the solid steps she’s made to improve, and her words of encouragement and advice for fellow parents.
Don’t forget to tune into this episode! A part of parenthood is we’re not always going to get it right, but with enough love, we can strive to make things better.
Episode Highlights:
Rivkie’s journey reforming and healing as a parent
The positive changes which were seen in herself and in her kids
Sibling rivalry as a personal challenge and how she tackles it
Her advice for parents getting started on connective parenting

How to Stop Yelling
When we believe our children are being difficult, we tend to use yelling to make them listen to us. But yelling can only go so far before it starts to form cracks in the relationship with our kids and leave them with emotional scars that might never go away. At some point, we need to ask ourselves: Is my child’s obedience worth losing their love and respect?
In this solo episode, I share my experience of being a parent who used to yell and how I continue to overcome that urge with hopes that I can encourage other parents to do the same.
Remember, the road of parenthood is not paved with fear, but with love.
Episode Highlights:
How yelling played a role in my life
How yelling can jeopardize our relationship with our children
Using connection and empathy as a replacement for yelling
My advice on how to calm down and process your emotions
The long-term effects yelling has on our children
Looking for ways to parent without yelling or threatening? Do you want to start using connection to better handle and guide your kids? I know I’ve definitely been there. Through my years of learning and experience, I’ve started to reach out and help other parents overcome their parenting challenges with a much calmer and empathetic approach.
You can check out my mini-course called How to Stop Yelling right here!

Chitra’s Journey into Connective Parenting
Traditionally, children are meant to obey their parents without question and any sign of defiance is met with punishment. We believe that our child’s behavior is a reflection of us as parents and that opens us up to judgment from others. No one wants to be labeled as a “bad parent” but just because something is accepted as the norm doesn’t always mean it’s automatically right either.
Chitra Peña, a member of the Peace and Parenting community, sits down with me to share her story and experiences in moving towards a more conscious parenting method and its results-- including her relationship with her children and her confidence in herself as a parent. Additionally, we’ll also dive into the effects of conventional parenting on the emotional well-being of both the parents and children.
Don’t forget to tune into this episode so we can help you forge a healthier relationship with your family!
Episode Highlights:
Chitra’s journey towards conscious parenting
How she processed her thoughts and feelings when her child experienced hurt
Deviating from conventional parenting and how she dealt with the judgment
Parenthood is not meant to be a hierarchy
The emotional cost of conventional parenting on your child and yourself

The Power of Listening Partners with Cassie and Lindsay
Parents try to prop themselves up as these invincible figures who aren’t affected by sadness or fear, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. They have their own fair share of anxieties and trauma; and when all of that just builds up, it starts to leak into other aspects of their lives. When that happens, it’s good to have someone who's willing to empathize and listen.
For this episode, I’ve invited two members of the Peace and Parenting community, Cassie and Lindsay. They have been listening partners for over a year and they will share with us how opening up to another person and learning to listen has aided them in becoming better parents and partners.
Join us for this episode as we discuss the importance of connection and how we can lend each other a listening ear.
Episode Highlights:
What are listening partnerships
Cassie and Lindsay’s experience being each other’s listening partner
How listening partnerships can improve our relationships
Deeper introspection allows us to heal
Advice for listening partnerships

Untigering with Iris Chen
Parenting shouldn’t be synonymous with control, but for my guest, Iris Chen, this was her reality while growing up in an Asian-American household. Our childhood experiences can shape what kind of parents we’ll become to our kids; but as their parents, it is our role to guide and care for them while also respecting their own autonomy. This is the realization that Iris came to when she saw her tiger parenting was driving her son away from her.
Iris is the author of the book, Untigering, where she shares her experience of being a tiger parent and her journey of pulling away from cultural norms for a more empathetic and respectful approach to parenting while also redefining what it means to be a successful parent.
Don’t forget to listen to this episode to help develop a more peaceful and healthier relationship with your kids!
Episode Highlights:
Iris’ childhood growing up in an Asian-American household
How her tiger parenting affected her relationship with her eldest
Accountability and learning to let go of controlling habits
It’s never too late to change
How projection warps how we perceive our child’s behavior
