#181 "Jesus Died for ME" — The Truth Some Christians Can't Say

When it comes to my own worldview and journey in theology and the Bible, this was a question to settle on an answer for: Did Jesus die for every person who ever lived, or only for the elect? And then there were the follow-up questions: If Jesus died for the everyone, ever, then why weren't their sins paid for? Why do they still go to Hell? And if Jesus died for a "category" of people (and we join that category through deciding to have faith), then can I ever really say that "Jesus died for me?" This is where the heart of the difference lies between Roman Catholics and Reformed Protestants on this issue: the Reformed can say "Jesus Christ loved me and gave himself for me" (Galatians 2:20). This is Limited Atonement, or "Particular Redemption" expressed.Watch my whole Apologetics Answers playlist here: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLfSpUNYR5qo6sv8Pk8x0tmaq8lLQHHlTm&si=FlnSB-pBhZ6SSaJEMen, get real accountability and knowledge to help you become the worldview leader your family and church need. #179 Medical Expert Reveals 3 Brutal Truths About Abortion for Christians

Abortion Isn’t “Healthcare.” It’s Killing.Joel Settecase sits down with anesthesiologist Dr. Brian Warren and abolitionist Michael Rogers to rip the mask off abortion—medically, morally, and biblically. No euphemisms. No political double-speak. How Scripture actually talks about the unborn (Exodus 21, Luke 1, etc.) and why abortion is rightly called murder. For Christian men and pastors who refuse to stay silent:Why cowardly pulpits helped normalize abortion—and how to push back. How to lead your family and church to defend life from conception to natural death.Real hope in Christ for anyone who’s had, paid for, or enabled an abortion.Join the Hammer & Anvil SocietyWant brothers who won’t fold on issues like this? #178 Total Depravity: 2 Mistakes You Can’t Afford to Make

How bad is sin—really?Joel Settecase tackles total depravity head-on—why humans aren’t just “broken” but spiritually dead, why that matters for the gospel, and where Roman Catholics, Eastern Orthodox, and “provisionists” get it wrong. This is straight, no-fluff theology for men who want to lead.In this episode you’ll hear:What total depravity / total inability actually means (not “as bad as possible,” but “corrupt in every part”).Why “I’m a good person” collapses when you see God’s standard of perfection, faith, and His glory. How Scripture proves our minds, hearts, and wills are enslaved to sin apart from Christ. How this doctrine explodes your view of grace, regeneration, and the cross.2 big mistakes non-evangelicals make:Roman Catholic: “But Noah and Job were righteous!” Eastern Orthodox: “Total depravity erases the image of God!” A third challenge: the “we’re not born depraved” crowdFor Christian men who are done with soft theologyPerfect if you want to:Lead your family with confidence in God’s Word.Understand Calvinism beyond the memes and strawmen.Engage Catholics, Orthodox, and non-Reformed friends with clarity and courage.Join the Hammer & Anvil SocietyWant brothers who are serious about doctrine and discipleship? #177 A Roman Catholic Tried to Debunk the Bible's Sole Supreme Authority (Here's What He Missed)

Can you really trust a 66-book Protestant Bible without the Pope, councils, or “Sacred Tradition” telling you what belongs in it? In this episode, Joel Settecase reacts to a viral Catholic argument against Sola Scriptura and shows why it collapses. You’ll hear how a fallible church can still recognize an infallible canon, why competing Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, and Ethiopian canons undermine the magisterium claim, and how Jesus and the apostles themselves ground ultimate authority in Scripture—not tradition. This is for Christian men who want to answer Catholic friends clearly, stand confidently on the sufficiency of Scripture, and lead their families with a Bible-first, presuppositional worldview.Partner with The Think Institute: Help equip more Christian men to build a strong biblical worldview in their homes, churches, and communities—become a financial partner at thethink.institute/partnerJoin the Hammer & Anvil Society: Step into a brotherhood of serious Christian men with weekly live cohort calls, worldview and apologetics training, and real accountability—learn more at thethink.institute/societySubscribe, rate, and share: Follow the show on Spotify, leave a 5-star rating and a quick review, and share this episode with a Christian man wrestling with Catholic claims about the Bible. Keywords: Sola Scriptura, biblical canon, Catholic vs Protestant, magisterium, Scripture and tradition, Eastern Orthodox canon, Ethiopian Bible, authority of Scripture, presuppositional apologetics, Joel Settecase, The Think Institute, Christian men, men’s discipleship, Hammer & Anvil Society.

#176 “I Don’t See Any Evidence for God” (How to Respond)

An atheist looks you in the eye and says, “There’s just no evidence for God.” What do you say? In this episode, Joel Settecase exposes the “apologetics cycle of doom” and shows you a better way to answer the skeptic who keeps demanding “more evidence” but never seems satisfied. Instead of chasing objections forever, you’ll learn how to flip the script using presuppositional apologetics, uncover the atheist’s hidden assumptions, and bring the conversation back to the cross of Jesus Christ, where real transformation happens. If you’re a Christian man who wants to lead your family, stand firm in a hostile culture, and give confident answers when atheists push back, this episode is your playbook. You’ll learn:What the “apologetics cycle of doom” is—and how to break out of itThe one question you must ask first: “What do you mean by evidence?”Why atheism has a logic problem, a mind problem, and a world problemHow the atheist is trusting laws of logic, the human mind, and the orderliness of the world that his worldview can’t explainHow Christianity uniquely grounds evidence, science, and rationalityA simple way to pivot from philosophy back to the gospel of Jesus ChristPartner with The Think Institute: Help us equip more Christian men to build a worldview legacy in their homes, churches, and communities. #175 Is Jesus Really Yahweh? Hebrew Israelite's Argument SMASHED

Was Jesus really worshiped as God—or just “honored” like any other man? In this late-night debrief, Joel breaks down a live debate with a Hebrew Israelite and shows from Scripture why Jesus is Yahweh, equal with the Father and worthy of true worship. 🔥 In this episode: The Hebrew Israelite challenge: “Jesus isn’t really God.”Proskuneō vs. latreuō – does the Greek prove Jesus isn’t God?Why word–study tricks (the “word–concept fallacy”) fail.Revelation’s angel who rejects worship—and what that says about worshiping Jesus.Four biblical truths that show Jesus is Yahweh:The Father and the Son share the name of Yahweh (Isaiah 42:8; Matthew 28:19).Yahweh sends Yahweh (Isaiah 48:16 ↔ 1 John 4:14).Yahweh alone creates—yet the Son creates all things (Isaiah 44:24; Colossians 1:16).Only Yahweh can save—so a “lesser Jesus” can’t save anyone. Why every false Jesus (Jehovah’s Witness, Hebrew Israelite, skeptic, etc.) is a false hope.A direct call to repent, trust the true Christ, and lead your family in the biblical worldview.👨‍👩‍👦 For Christian men on the frontlinesIf you’re a husband, dad, or future family leader who refuses to roll over to cultural chaos, this episode will equip you to demolish bad theology and defend the deity of Christ with confidence. 🔍 Searchable topics / keywords:Jesus is Yahweh, Is Jesus God, Trinity, Deity of Christ, Hebrew Israelites, Black Hebrew Israelites, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Alex O’Connor, James D. #174 Stop Being Embarrassed About the Name "Evangelical" (9 Verses Explain Why)

What is an evangelical, really—and is evangelicalism actually biblical? In this episode, Joel from The Think Institute makes a robust, Scripture-packed case that evangelicalism (rightly defined) is not a shallow, American invention but a deeply biblical, historically rooted movement. He walks through the history, four core pillars, and nine key Bible passages that together challenge Eastern Orthodox, Roman Catholics, and others to take a fresh look at evangelical faith. Joel also shares how The Think Institute exists to help Christian men become the worldview leaders their families and churches need, and why he’s stepping into the gap as a Protestant apologist engaging Eastern Orthodox critics and online “ortho-bros.”In This Episode You’ll Hear About:Why the word evangelical has fallen on hard times—and why Joel refuses to abandon it. How evangelicalism is a movement, not a single denomination, and why Joel calls it “the most biblical form of Christianity” (without claiming to be the one true church). The historical roots of modern evangelicalismThe four pillars of evangelicalism Joel’s response to the claim that there are few strong Protestant apologists engaging Eastern Orthodoxy—plus why Joel happily says, “I’m your huckleberry.” Live Q&A highlights, including questions about repentance, hell, worship, and whether Jesus is the only one who ascended into heaven.Key Scriptures in This EpisodeUse these passages to follow along or study later:Acts 17:10–12 – The Bereans and noble-minded Scripture testing 2 Timothy 3:16–17 – Scripture as God-breathed and sufficient Romans 3:23–25 – Christ as our propitiation1 Corinthians 15:3–4 – “Of first importance”: Christ died, was buried, and was raised Ezekiel 36:26–27 – New heart and new SpiritJohn 3:3–7 – “You must be born again”Acts 3:19 – “Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out” Matthew 28:18–20 – The Great Commission and discipling the nations James 1:27 – Pure and undefiled religion before GodNext Steps for Christian MenJoin the Hammer & Anvil Society – Get weekly cohort calls, courses, challenges, and brotherhood to become the worldview leader your family and church need.👉 https://thethink.institute/societyGive a Gift to The Think Institute – Help us equip more men with biblical worldview and apologetics training through debates, resources, and live teaching.👉 https://thethink.institute/partnerBring Apologetics Training to Your Church or Men’s Ministry – Invite The Think Institute to equip your men to defend the faith and lead with confidence.👉 https://thethink.institute/forchurches

It's Worldview Wednesday, so let's talk about Anthropology—what it means to be human. We're going to compare and contrast biblical Christianity with atheism in five key areas: (1) The superiority of humanity(2) The inferiority of humanity(3) The moral status of humanity(4) Humanity's objective nature(5) Humanity's subjective self-perceptionWe'll see why the two views aren't just contradictory to each other, but how Christianity is coherent and atheist anthropology (view of humanity) ends up defeating itself.=================Men, get real accountability and knowledge to help you become the worldview leader your family and church need.
