Principles (Part II)
“There are three constants in life – change, choice and principles.”~ Stephen CoveyThis Habits 2 Goals episode is FREE for ALL subscribers. Principles govern one's results over the long term.— Excerpt from Principles I —Principles can be likened to the law of gravity: Throw a rock out of a window and you know it will fall toward the earth – every time!Principles are environmental factors that control, influence, and dictate one's results.Covey shares his, "Law of the Farm" example to convey a principle in action. It's impossible to plant a seed today and reap the harvest tomorrow.Impossible.The principles at play demand that time and nurture are required to reap a harvest. Thus, principles govern results.Human effectiveness operates similarly – within a context of timeless, environmental principles.Part II is about how the concept of principles coincides with “The 3 Circles of Behavior Echo-System.”---In the model above, where do you think these governing, timeless principles are located?Correct. The environment! One's environment has the ability to be a showstopper depending upon the goal they are aiming for.For instance, just try to grow flowers in the snow.Similarly, imagine a client whose home life is a wreck. They have a tenant they cannot evict and their wife is threatening divorce. How likely is it that they will be able to finish their creative endeavor anytime soon?About zero percent. Why does this matter? It matters because this model reminds us that we must develop our habits and skills within a conducive environment – one that is in alignment with the governing and timeless principles at play.Is your environment favorable for your goals and ideals? Are you working in harmony with governing principles like "the law of the farm?"Are there more tools, and resources (time, money, people) required to help develop the required habits and skills? My latest book, EVERYTHING is a F*cking STORY, reveals the first and only behavior model to illustrate human behavior in an “echo-system.” Not eco-system.Further, it illustrates how the essential components for personal transformation and long-term goal achievement must be aligned for human effectiveness.Feel free to comment and share. ; )Enjoy the show!Visit https://thehabitfactor.com/templatesTo learn more about P.A.R.R., just Google “P.A.R.R. and The Habit Factor.”→ Check out, EVERYTHING is a F*cking STORY my latest book.Get The Habit Factor® FREE with your audible trial! https://audibletrial.com/habits2goalsIt’s time to make your goals “Automatic!”: https://automaticgoals.comFeedspot’s “Top 10 Habit Podcasts You Must Follow in 2021”New listeners, grab your free habits 2 goals tracking template here: https://thehabitfactor.com/templatesFREE copy of As a Man Thinketh (PDF) right here:As a Man ThinkethSubscribe iTunes here! Principles (Part I)
“There are three constants in life – change, choice and principles.”~ Stephen CoveyThis Habits 2 Goals episode is FREE for ALL subscribers. Chances are good that you've read or at least know of the book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. Most people think it's a book about habits. It is not. It's a brilliant book about effectiveness. Here's the key: Effectiveness by operating within the context of “universal, governing PRINCIPLES.”Now, you're saying what the heck does that mean?Principles govern one's results over the long term.----Principles can be likened to the law of gravity: Throw a rock out of a window and you know it will fall toward the earth – every time!Principles are environmental factors that control, influence, and dictate one's results.Covey shares his, "Law of the Farm" example to convey a principle in action. It's impossible to plant a seed today and reap the harvest tomorrow.Impossible.The principles at play demand that time and nurture are required to reap a harvest. Thus, principles govern results.Human effectiveness operates similarly – within a context of timeless, environmental principles. To be effective, one must operate in alignment with principles like:RESPONSIBILITYVISIONPRODUCTIVITY---How do you know these principles govern effectiveness?Try to imagine an effective person who is not responsible.Try to imagine an effective person absent of direction – vision. Thus, each of those (above) are principles that dictate one's ability to produce the results they are looking for.---Collectively, Covey labels these the "private" victory.Be proactive. = ResponsibleBegin with the end in mind. = VisionPut first things first. = ProductivityEach is identified as an essential habit to be developed because it aligns with the governing principles of effectiveness.Check out my latest book, EVERYTHING is a F*cking STORY to see how environmental principles influence your effectiveness.Comment and share.Enjoy the show!Visit https://thehabitfactor.com/templatesTo learn more about P.A.R.R., just Google “P.A.R.R. and The Habit Factor.”→ Check out, EVERYTHING is a F*cking STORY my latest book.Get The Habit Factor® FREE with your audible trial! https://audibletrial.com/habits2goalsIt’s time to make your goals “Automatic!”: https://automaticgoals.comFeedspot’s “Top 10 Habit Podcasts You Must Follow in 2021”New listeners, grab your free habits 2 goals tracking template here: https://thehabitfactor.com/templatesFREE copy of As a Man Thinketh (PDF) right here:As a Man ThinkethSubscribe iTunes here! Paradigm Me (Part II)
“If you want small changes, work on your behavior; if you want quantum-leap changes, work on your paradigms." ~ Stephen Covey This Habits 2 Goals episode is FREE for ALL subscribers. Paradigms: Part II – [Episode with special guest Jen Grant]Paradigm by definition:nounpar·a·digm ˈper-ə-ˌdīm : EXAMPLE, PATTERNespecially : an outstandingly clear or typical example or archetype… regard science as the paradigm of true knowledge.—G. C. J. Midgley: a philosophical and theoretical framework of a scientific school or discipline within which theories, laws, and generalizations and the experiments performed in support of them are formulatedthe Freudian paradigm of psychoanalysisbroadly : a philosophical or theoretical framework of any kindA model or framework – a typical example or archetype. In short, paradigms don’t just influence behavior, they drive it from within as a self-referential model, similar to an operating system. Why are we talking about paradigms again? As a behavior model, the “3 Circles of Behavior Echo-System” is a paradigm-shifting tool. Thus, this tool/model ☝️ can help anyone diagnose and troubleshoot their long-term goals and/or personal transformation pursuits.Second, similar to "Plato's Cave" allegory, it reveals the power of a paradigm shift by altering what one understands by changing what one “sees.”As Jen says in this episode, "What's interesting is that until you become aware of the paradigms that have been handed to you growing up (by default), you'll never realize that you can create and choose your own paradigms." Choosing your own paradigm is a unique human superpower!Since paradigms drive behavior as a self-referential model - the very first, most important, paradigm shift one can make is understanding how they control and direct the paradigms that direct their behavior.Everyone can intentionally adopt paradigms that support their long-term goals and personal transformation pursuits.Much more about the model in my latest book, EVERYTHING is a F*cking STORY.Comment and share!Enjoy the show!Visit https://thehabitfactor.com/templatesTo learn more about P.A.R.R., just Google “P.A.R.R. and The Habit Factor.”→ Check out, EVERYTHING is a F*cking STORY my latest book.Get The Habit Factor® FREE with your audible trial! https://audibletrial.com/habits2goalsIt’s time to make your goals “Automatic!”: https://automaticgoals.comFeedspot’s “Top 10 Habit Podcasts You Must Follow in 2021”New listeners, grab your free habits 2 goals tracking template here: https://thehabitfactor.com/templatesFREE copy of As a Man Thinketh (PDF) right here:As a Man ThinkethSubscribe iTunes here! Paradigm Me
“If you want small changes, work on your behavior; if you want quantum-leap changes, work on your paradigms." ~ Stephen Covey This Habits 2 Goals episode is FREE for ALL subscribers.Clichés can become so overly used that people forget their original intent. What does it really mean to have a “Paradigm-shift”?Paradigm by definition:nounpar·a·digm ˈper-ə-ˌdīm ˈpa-rə-, also -ˌdim: EXAMPLE, PATTERNespecially : an outstandingly clear or typical example or archetype… regard science as the paradigm of true knowledge.—G. C. J. Midgley: an example of a conjugation or declension showing a word in all its inflectional forms: a philosophical and theoretical framework of a scientific school or discipline within which theories, laws, and generalizations and the experiments performed in support of them are formulatedthe Freudian paradigm of psychoanalysisbroadly : a philosophical or theoretical framework of any kindA model or framework – a typical example or archetype. In short, paradigms don’t just influence behavior, they drive it from within as a self-referential model, similar to an operating system.A paradigm shift has the potential to instantly alter decades of prior behavior patterns/habits.Yes. Instantly. This is precisely what Stephen Covey means by quantum leap (above) ☝️.EXAMPLE:A story I enjoy telling involves a neighbor-friend who insisted that she could, "Never quit smoking!" Henry Ford used to say, "Whether you think you can, or you can't, you're right."It was safe to say that her paradigm was, "I'm a smoker, and I will always smoke."Fast forward approximately eighteen months. I notice that she is exercising and had lost some weight. She looked terrific. I told her she looked healthy. She then declared, "I quit smoking too!"How is that possible? I wondered. She seemed committed to her story about never being able to quit smoking."I"m pregnant!" She nearly shouted. There you have it.That's a paradigm shift.Roles (like mother or father), titles, names, badges, even uniforms, etc., influence how people see themselves which influences their behavior.Observe the stories that unfold in your life relative to how you see yourself, your goals, and your ideals. How do you regard the world at large?Einstein's allegedly said, “The most important decision we make is whether we believe we live in a hostile or friendly universe.”The truth is, as I wrote in EVERYTHING is a F*cking STORY, it's both a hostile and friendly universe. However, from that simple determination (a paradigm – a self-referential model) an array of decisions, actions, and behaviors spill forward to alter the results of one’s life.Ask yourself what paradigms you have subscribed to. Which may need to change to alter your results?Comment and share!Enjoy the show!Visit https://thehabitfactor.com/templatesTo learn more about P.A.R.R., just Google “P.A.R.R. and The Habit Factor.”→ Check out, EVERYTHING is a F*cking STORY my latest book.Get The Habit Factor® FREE with your audible trial! https://audibletrial.com/habits2goalsIt’s time to make your goals “Automatic!”: https://automaticgoals.comFeedspot’s “Top 10 Habit Podcasts You Must Follow in 2021”New listeners, grab your free habits 2 goals tracking template here: https://thehabitfactor.com/templatesFREE copy of As a Man Thinketh (PDF) right here:As a Man ThinkethSubscribe iTunes here! Put Your Mind Into It
“Most people just go through the motions…” ~ Arnold SchwarzeneggerThis Habits 2 Goals episode is FREE for ALL subscribers.I came across a Youtube short #youtubeshorts in which Arnold was pointing out that when most people lift weights they are just “going through the motions…”Examine his statement more deeply. It can be applied to everything.Where do you find yourself “just going through the motions?”If the difference in effective weight lifting is the powerful application of concentration – putting your mind into it – where else can this idea be applied?Essentially, this is a different way to approach concentration and focus – “putting your mind into it.”Next time you perform an important task, whether it’s accounting, writing, or lifting weights be sure to PUT YOUR MIND INTO IT!Enjoy the show!Visit https://thehabitfactor.com/templatesTo learn more about P.A.R.R., just Google “P.A.R.R. and The Habit Factor.”------Check out, EVERYTHING is a F*cking STORY my latest book.Get The Habit Factor® FREE with your audible trial! https://audibletrial.com/habits2goalsIt’s time to make your goals “Automatic!”: https://automaticgoals.comFeedspot’s “Top 10 Habit Podcasts You Must Follow in 2021”New listeners, grab your free habits 2 goals tracking template here: https://thehabitfactor.com/templatesFREE copy of As a Man Thinketh (PDF) right here:As a Man ThinkethSubscribe iTunes here! The Easy Part
“It's not the will to win that matters – everyone has that. It's the will to prepare to win that matters.” ~Coach Bear BryantThis Habits 2 Goals episode is FREE for ALL subscribers. While watching the NCAA men's wrestling championships a powerful mind bullet emerges. An excited reporter asks the Cornell head wrestling coach, "How can your wrestler assure victory?"The coach chuckles and replies, "Well, this is the easy part. All he has to do now is wrestle!"The lesson is simple and profound: Great performances rest upon a foundation of Planning, Preparing, and Practicing, "The 3 P's."The greater the pressure to perform in any event, whether it's wrestling, a concert, or a presentation, the greater the demand to Plan, Prepare, and Practice better. In The Pressure Paradox™, "The 3 P's" are detailed in depth.Notice how all the elite performers under the highest pressure situations tend to be the ones who Plan, Prepare and Practice the best.Enjoy the show!Visit https://thehabitfactor.com/templatesTo learn more about P.A.R.R., just Google “P.A.R.R. and The Habit Factor.”------Check out, EVERYTHING is a F*cking STORY my latest book.Get The Habit Factor® FREE with your audible trial!https://audibletrial.com/habits2goalsIt’s time to make your goals “Automatic!”: https://automaticgoals.comFeedspot’s “Top 10 Habit Podcasts You Must Follow in 2021”New listeners, grab your free habits 2 goals tracking template here: https://thehabitfactor.com/templatesFREE copy of As a Man Thinketh (PDF) right here:As a Man ThinkethSubscribe iTunes here! Monotony
“Effectiveness requires an appreciation for monotony and routine.”This Habits 2 Goals episode is FREE for ALL subscribers.A lot of people say things like, "I hate monotony" or "I hate routines."The challenge with such an identity is that it establishes a fixed mindset about one's abilities; what one can achieve. The art of enjoying monotony and routine is an essential principle for success.Try to imagine a masterful painter, pianist, or bodybuilder who doesn't appreciate the value of practice.Consider the monotony of bodybuilding or training for a marathon. Each demand tedious, monotonous, and routine efforts; which become the path to betterment. In the natural world, nothing remains static or fixed for too long. Letting go of a fixed, deleterious story about monotony and routine will lead to growth.Learn to welcome and appreciate the value of routine and monotony as much as variety and surprise.Enjoy the show!Visit https://thehabitfactor.com/templatesTo learn more about P.A.R.R., just Google “P.A.R.R. and The Habit Factor.”------Check out, EVERYTHING is a F*cking STORY my latest book.Get The Habit Factor® FREE with your audible trial!https://audibletrial.com/habits2goalsIt’s time to make your goals “Automatic!”: https://automaticgoals.comFeedspot’s “Top 10 Habit Podcasts You Must Follow in 2021”New listeners, grab your free habits 2 goals tracking template here: https://thehabitfactor.com/templatesFREE copy of As a Man Thinketh (PDF) right here:As a Man ThinkethSubscribe iTunes here! "Everyone faces the same challenge; aligning their willpower with their volition. The good news is that by following P.A.R.R. they also develop discipline."This Habits 2 Goals premium episode is FREE for ALL subscribers.Five plus years and 500+ Habits 2 Goals episodes later, a single, common theme reveals itself; the significance of habit tracking.Behavioral scientists used to say things like, "habit trackers don't work."They were semi-correct; they do not work when they are not used. When a person tracks their behaviors and follows the P.A.R.R. methodology (Plan, Act, Record & Reassess), they will experience tremendous success.By habit-tracking the 'right' way, they gain positive momentum and feel better about themselves. All because they have aligned their behaviors with their volition. Some people still say things like, "Life is meant for living, not tracking?"The truth is, one can, and should, do both. They should live and track. When your goals are important, it's time to start habit tracking.Enjoy the show!Visit https://thehabitfactor.com/templatesTo learn more about P.A.R.R., just Google “P.A.R.R. and The Habit Factor.”------Check out, EVERYTHING is a F*cking STORY my latest book.Get The Habit Factor® FREE with your audible trial!https://audibletrial.com/habits2goalsIt’s time to make your goals “Automatic!”: https://automaticgoals.comFeedspot’s “Top 10 Habit Podcasts You Must Follow in 2021”New listeners, grab your free habits 2 goals tracking template here: https://thehabitfactor.com/templatesFREE copy of As a Man Thinketh (PDF) right here:As a Man ThinkethSubscribe iTunes here! Pain & Suffering
“Pain is inevitable; suffering is optional.” ~The Dalai LamaThis Habits 2 Goals episode is FREE for ALL subscribers. It finally dawns on me that along with ANY worthwhile goal one chooses to pursue, pain and suffering are part of the “package.” Each is preloaded – like software – with every worthwhile goal and ideal. For instance, if you want to be a great mother, you can rest assured there will be pain and suffering. If you want to become a lawyer, there will be pain and suffering. If you want to become a great gymnast, a chess or surf champ, there will be pain and suffering.Do you want to have the perfect spouse? Brace yourself; there will be pain and suffering. Why is this worth mentioning? Since pain and suffering are inescapable, it’s imperative to pursue goals you are obsessed with and passionate about. Otherwise, you'll quit.Enjoy the show!Visit https://thehabitfactor.com/templatesTo learn more about P.A.R.R., just Google “P.A.R.R. and The Habit Factor.”------Check out, EVERYTHING is a F*cking STORY my latest book.Get The Habit Factor® FREE with your audible trial!https://audibletrial.com/habits2goalsIt’s time to make your goals “Automatic!”: https://automaticgoals.comFeedspot’s “Top 10 Habit Podcasts You Must Follow in 2021”New listeners, grab your free habits 2 goals tracking template here: https://thehabitfactor.com/templatesFREE copy of As a Man Thinketh (PDF) right here:As a Man ThinkethSubscribe iTunes here! Complaining II
“It's impossible to be grateful when you're complaining.”This Habits 2 Goals premium episode is FREE for ALL subscribers.Do you notice how often you complain to yourself and others?Have you ever tallied the total number of complaints in a day?Are you aware of how often you complain about "things" and "events" large and small?Complaining is a topic that was covered back in June of 2020. Once again, MG decides to address the subtle and disruptive habit. The first day he decides to tally his complaints, he notices the first complaint even before getting out of bed. Then, just fifteen minutes into the morning, he's already tallied three complaints. Why does this matter? Who cares? Complaining can be fun, right?Well, it's tough to be grateful when you are complaining. If you're a parent, how do you feel when your child complains? Are you interested in rewarding that behavior?Without putting awareness around the daily habit, most people won't ever know how often they complain. They may never know how badly it's impacting their attitude or even their relationships. The good news is, like any habit, by adding some awareness, tracking, and practice the complaining habit can be minimized if not removed entirely.Enjoy the show!Visit https://thehabitfactor.com/templatesTo learn more about P.A.R.R., just Google “P.A.R.R. and The Habit Factor.”------Check out, EVERYTHING is a F*cking STORY my latest book.Get The Habit Factor® FREE with your audible trial!https://audibletrial.com/habits2goalsIt’s time to make your goals “Automatic!”: https://automaticgoals.comFeedspot’s “Top 10 Habit Podcasts You Must Follow in 2021”New listeners, grab your free habits 2 goals tracking template here: https://thehabitfactor.com/templatesFREE copy of As a Man Thinketh (PDF) right here:As a Man ThinkethSubscribe iTunes here!
