Narado Zeco Powell - The Matter Over Mind Experience podcast
narado@zecohealth.com
www.ZecoHealth.com
In this podcast interview between Brad Williams from Over 40 Fitness Hacks and Zeco Narado from The Matter Over Mind Experience podcast, Zico shares his journey from being underweight in his childhood to achieving a healthy and fit lifestyle. Growing up in Jamaica, Zeco had a preference for snacks over cooked food, which led to his underweight condition. When he moved to the U.S. at 16, he realized the need to gain weight and started weight training and learning about nutrition.
Over the years, Zeco's weight fluctuated, but he never developed an eating disorder. However, he realized that despite being fit, he wasn't healthy. He had asthma, allergies, high blood pressure, and eczema. A pivotal moment came when he sought advice from a doctor and was only recommended medication. This spurred his journey into exploring alternative approaches to health.
Zeco began reading books by Dr. Steven Gundry and learned about lectins and anti-nutrients in plants. Initially skeptical, he started making small changes, such as sprouting beans and washing rice, practices he remembered from his grandparents. These changes gradually improved his health, including better breathing and increased energy. Zeco delved into various aspects of holistic health, including nutrition, sleep, and lifestyle changes.
Ultimately, he not only maintained a healthy weight but also improved his overall health. Inspired by his transformation, Zeco obtained certifications in fitness and nutrition, launched his own podcast, and connected with experts in the field to educate others about the importance of gut health, nutrition, and holistic well-being.
Brad Williams shared a similar journey triggered by a lower back injury, which led him to focus on gut health, allergies, and overall well-being. Both Zceo and Brad emphasize the importance of optimizing the body as one ages and the significance of the mind-body connection in maintaining health and longevity. They stress that feeling good should be prioritized over aesthetics and advocate for educating people on these vital topics through podcasts, YouTube, and discussions with health experts.

Is Your Weight Loss Stalling Out: The Hidden Impact of Food Allergies
Click Here for a FREE 15 min Zoom Consultation With Brad:
In this episode, Brad Williams, host of "Over 40 Fitness Hacks," discusses the impact of food allergies on weight loss. He begins by addressing how certain foods can cause bloating and inflammation in the body. Brad emphasizes the importance of recognizing and managing food allergies, as chronic inflammation can hinder weight loss progress.
Brad shares his personal experience with food allergies, which started with an anaphylactic shock from using NSAIDs and later from consuming whey protein concentrate. He explains how even mild allergies, like his shrimp and red wine sensitivities, can contribute to chronic inflammation. He also highlights the connection between whey protein allergies and milk protein, which led to his discovery that many cheeses contain whey protein, causing further inflammation.
To identify problematic foods, Brad recommends paying close attention to one's body and tracking symptoms, especially focusing on the upper belly area. He suggests eliminating or limiting foods that lead to bloating and inflammation to achieve better results in weight loss, protein synthesis, and hormonal regulation.
Brad also briefly mentions remedies for bloating and inflammation, such as drinking hot water with honey and lemon juice or consuming Aloe Vera. However, he stresses that these remedies should not be a substitute for a healthy diet free of inflammatory foods.
In conclusion, Brad urges listeners to listen to their bodies, closely monitor their diets, and create a list of trigger foods to reduce inflammation and improve overall well-being. He plans to explore this topic further in future episodes, emphasizing the importance of understanding and managing food allergies for better health outcomes.

In this podcast episode, Brad Williams of Over 40 Fitness Hacks discusses his experiences with Direct Primary Care providers, or DPCs. He introduces DPC as a membership-based physician's program, distinct from traditional hospital services, offering a concierge-style healthcare experience. Brad emphasizes the value of DPC as a complement to conventional health insurance and highlights the benefits he and his family have enjoyed over the past four years.
He explains that DPC offers immediate access to a doctor and healthcare team, allowing members to receive same-day or next-day appointments, fostering a sense of concierge service. While DPC facilities may not handle major emergencies like accidents, they excel at addressing common healthcare needs, from treating illnesses to providing advice on diet and performing preventative measures.
Brad describes the cost-effectiveness of DPC memberships compared to traditional insurance, making it an attractive option for many. He also mentions that DPC providers often focus on preventative healthcare, offering advanced preventive measures and scans that may not be readily available through larger healthcare corporations.
He shares a personal anecdote about the convenience of having quick access to healthcare for his daughter, contrasting it with the delays experienced with larger healthcare providers. Brad encourages listeners to explore DPC facilities in their area using the DPC Frontier Mapper website, emphasizing that it's essential to maintain traditional insurance for emergencies while benefiting from the immediate care and personalized attention offered by DPC providers.
Brad concludes the episode by expressing his excitement about his upcoming checkup with his new DPC doctor in San Diego, emphasizing his dedication to optimizing his health and sharing his experiences to raise awareness about the benefits of Direct Primary Care.

In this podcast interview between Brad Williams from Over 40 Fitness Hacks and Catherine Staffieri from Nutrisense, they delve into the world of biohacking through Nutrisense's innovative product. Nutrisense offers a unique blood glucose monitoring system combined with a fitness-focused app, designed to help individuals optimize their health. The discussion highlights how this approach is different from traditional diabetic-focused use of continuous glucose monitors (CGMs).
Catherine explains that Nutrisense builds upon existing CGM technology, using Abbott Freestyle Libre sensors, and pairs it with a comprehensive app. This app not only displays glucose data but also factors in nutrition, exercise, stress, and other variables, offering a holistic view of one's health. Nutrisense further distinguishes itself by providing personalized support from dieticians and nutritionists during the initial month of using the product.
The conversation revolves around the concept of "N equals 1," where each individual's response to different factors varies. The CGM and app together provide a real-time window into the body, revealing how various lifestyle factors impact glucose levels throughout the day and night. This personalized approach allows users to gain insights into their unique responses to foods, exercise, and other influences.
Brad emphasizes the product's potential for low-level biohacking, allowing users to understand how their bodies react to different inputs. He mentions his excitement about experimenting with factors like workout timing and fasting to observe their effects on his glucose levels. In this episode of the "Over 40 Fitness Hacks" podcast, host Brad Williams interviews Joe Martin from the "Relentless Positivity" podcast. The focus of the discussion is on Joe's expertise in training and motivating women over 40. Joe emphasizes the importance of setting deep, meaningful goals before embarking on a fitness journey. He introduces the concept of the "five whys," which involves asking "why" five times to delve into the core motivations behind weight loss goals. Joe shares that this psychological approach helps create a strong emotional connection to the goals, making it easier to stay committed even in challenging circumstances.
Joe narrates a personal experience with a client who uncovered a profound motivation beyond just wanting to lose weight – the desire to break generational bonds and provide a positive example for her daughter. This revelation showcases the power of connecting with underlying motivations.
The conversation also touches on common misconceptions held by women over 40, such as the fear of becoming bulky through weightlifting. Joe addresses these concerns by providing education about the challenges of building significant muscle mass and encourages a focus on lean muscle development.
The duo discusses the obsession with the scale and how Joe's approach involves shifting the emphasis away from mere weight loss. Joe explains that during the initial months of training, clients might experience an increase in weight due to muscle gain, but the ultimate goal is to lose inches and improve overall well-being. He highlights the importance of evaluating other factors like improved sleep, mood, and energy levels as indicators of progress.
Throughout the conversation, the importance of holistic wellness emerges. Joe and Brad agree that happiness and confidence come from feeling better in one's own skin, which can be achieved through a combination of movement, proper nutrition, and quality sleep. The discussion encourages listeners to prioritize their overall well-being and find joy in the journey to fitness after 40.

In this podcast episode, Brad Williams from Over 40 Fitness Hacks interviews Rick Olderman, an expert in pain relief and biomechanics. They delve into upper body issues, focusing on neck pain leading to headaches and the role of the shoulder girdle system in this discomfort. Rick explains that while most bones are long, the pelvis and shoulder blade are exceptions, and they discuss how these bones affect overall body mechanics.
Rick emphasizes that the shoulder blade's correct resting and movement positions are vital for upper body mechanics. Dysfunction in the shoulder blade can transmit force into the neck bones, causing pain. He introduces the "armpit test," a simple assessment to determine if the shoulder blade is the source of neck pain or headaches. Rick provides step-by-step instructions, including lifting the armpits gently to relieve tension, often resulting in increased head movement.
The conversation continues with insights into common posture misconceptions, like the belief that squeezing the shoulder blades down and back creates good posture. Rick clarifies that the shoulder blades are not meant for posture and explains a more effective approach using core engagement to support posture. He demonstrates how improper posture strategies contribute to shoulder blade dysfunction and offers a method to decouple the relationship between shoulder tension and core activation.
Rick highlights the importance of ergonomic adjustments to complement posture changes and provides a comprehensive solution for chronic shoulder dysfunction, neck pain, and headaches. He encourages early assessments and education to prevent these issues and shares his website, rickolderman.com, where listeners can access his online programs and resources. The interview ends with Rick expressing his passion for educating practitioners and individuals to understand and address biomechanical problems for improved pain relief and overall well-being.
