Mr Serenity Tom Basso
Market Wizard Tom Basso on trading and enjoying the rideIn this episode of Talking Trading we hear from Market Wizard Tom Basso and his trading journey from when he started buying mutual funds at the age of 12 to life after retirement and some of the things he learned along the way. Hear why he prefers the word trading strategy to system, how he controls volatility and the two most impactful trades of his career. We hear the story behind the tag line 'Mr Serenity' and why finding the sweet spot of your investment psychology is the most important thing to maintain your… serenity.Tom BassoTom Basso started trading mutual funds at the ripe age of 12. He went on to trade 600 million dollars at his company Trendstat and became famously known as Mr Serenity in New Market Wizards.Jack Schwager said he had never met a trader who was so darn calm about what he was doing and in this interview we find out why.Tom discusses the two trades in silver, which had the most impact on his life. The first taught him volatility control, which enabled him to be even-keeled in his trading.By using good volatility control Tom could remain tranquil in his trading which was the key to his long term survival… and is also why he believes finding the sweet spot of investment psychology is the most important thing. There are friends of Tom’s in the industry who have committed suicide, even other Market Wizards have burnt out, but Tom has remained Mr Serenity.Another trade in silver taught Tom a different lesson.Never miss trades. The only prerequisite Tom has for going on holiday is a wifi connection. Tom and his wife take cruises around the world but he still trades every day.Tom enjoys the ride, and he wonders that if you are finding your path somewhat miserable, what is the point of all of this? He is still, more than ever, Mr Serenity. To contact Tom, go to Tom Basso on Facebook or Twitter or listen to the interview for his email address. If your trading feels like running on a treadmill — sweating, pushing, but going nowhere — it’s because you’re missing the right system. Market Wizards Author – Jack Schwager
If you could ask anything to the man who has interviewed the world’s top traders, what would it be? In this episode Jack Schwager, author of the legendary Market Wizard series, discusses writing his books and the answer to that seminal question - what are the characteristics of great traders? Jack also discusses FundSeeder, his new project designed to find the undiscovered great traders. Jack SchwagerJack Schwager wrote Market Wizards to capture the characteristics of great traders through their stories.Starting with Michael Marcus and then Ed Seykota, he went on a cookie crumb trail around the USA and created the legendary Market Wizards series. Filled with timeless truths the books are classic literature for every trader. In this interview hear how the Market Wizard series evolved, what Jack Schwager learnt from writing it, and the seminal question to ask the Market Wizard himself – what characteristics make a great trader to set them apart from everyone else?Jack discusses two traits in detail:1. There is NO ONE WAY TO MAKE MONEY IN THE MARKETS and you have to find an approach that fits your belief system. Many Market Wizards view each other’s trading approach with complete cynicism and they often have conflicting opinions 180 degrees apart.‘There are a billion ways to make money in the markets. Unfortunately they are all difficult to find.’ - Jack Schwager2. You need complete FLEXIBILITY and LACK OF LOYALTY to a share. Great traders are able to change their direction on a dime, not only are they able to get out but they are able to flip positions.Jack also discusses FundSeeder, his new project to discover undiscovered trading talent and connect them with investors. What is Real in Real Estate?
Michael YardneyOn the BRW Rich 200 List, property was a major source of wealth for Australian multi-millionaires.Real Estate is an asset class that is stable and secure with long-term consistent capital growth in Australia. There are two major factors, which underpin growth of real estate in Australia:Population growth Wealth of the nationAustralia’s population is growing faster than any other Western nation. Our population is predicted to grow by 2% every year, which is twice as fast as the UK, USA and Canada. People in general want to live in the same four big cities around Australia and they all want to live in the same suburbs of these capital cities. The wealth of Australia is the second reason real estate is a stable long-term investment. Whilst Australia is an expensive country to live we are also one of the wealthiest in the world. In 10 years from now our cities will have grown, people will continue to trade backyards for balconies and gentrification of suburbs will continue. There is an old Chinese proverb:When is the best time to plant a tree? Twenty years ago. When is the second best time? Now.Also, the event of the year has arrived.Wealth Retreat is the ultimate mastermind networking conference for real estate investors, share traders and entrepreneurs. Tsunami Decision
When the tsunami in Japan almost wiped out Jeni White’s trading account she enrolled in the Mentor Program. In this week’s episode of Talking Trading we look at Jeni’s trading journey and how she realised what was possible. Louise Bedford also tells us her definition of financial freedom and the amount of confidence and security it gives her… and how all traders can feel like that too. Jeni WhiteJeni White gathered her trading float by sweating away in hothouses growing hydroponic tomatoes. She tried trading on her own and she was up in profit… but the tsunami in Japan caused destruction within her trading account and nearly wiped her out.She knew then it was time to do the Mentor Program.During the Mentor Program Jeni realised how much she could take control and she didn’t have to be at the whim of what came her way and she could “grab life by the nuts”.She could make it happen. Her biggest curve ball was when her beloved Grandfather died and left her money which doubled her trading float. It threw her into a spin. The fear of losing the money that he had given her was far worse than the thought of losing the money she had made. The Mentor Program opened a whole new world for Jeni where she is in charge of her financial future and looking forward to that golden bull equity market. Louise Bedford - MindpowerThe Solution Is TradingLouise Bedford’s definition of financial freedom is: If you took everything away from her she could recreate it from scratch, and the second time around she could do it faster, bigger and better. To Louise, having this knowledge, confidence and skills is the feeling of TRUE FREEDOM.Trading does that for you.You can have this feeling too.
