Liverpool end their incredible season with the biggest prize of them all after a game that may not have been a classic, but still managed to provide a lot of memorable moments. As well as all that the season isn’t even really over— there’s still the UEFA Nations League to come! We have a good look ahead to that, have the pleasure of a new Louis Van Gaal interview, clear up some birthday based confusion and generally have a lovely old time. Golden Booty: Chelsea are on top in Europe, Aston Villa are back in the Premier League and the Champions League is on the horizon
What a magical night in Baku! Goals! Empty seats! An atmosphere! Of sorts! Chelsea give Arsenal a gubbing to win the Europa League and make Maurizio Sarri’s season look pretty good indeed, as Eden Hazard and his turbo-booty give Arsenal another miserable night to forget. After picking over this we take the time to congratulate Aston Villa on their promotion, rejoice at the prospect of a second season of Marcelo Bielsa and wonder if there could be a place for Alan Pardew to pick up where he left off in the sheikh-based Newcastle United revolution. Sheikh bake: Play-off drama, a Man United nostalgia-fest and a potential takeover at Newcastle
Could Mike Ashley finally be about to sell Newcastle United? Rumours suggest it may be the case, but one of our number isn’t so sure. Where other rumours are concerned, Man United get all Moby as their class of ’99 turn it on at Old Trafford, and there are whisperings of a return to football for Big Weng. Poor old Sunderland suffer yet more heartache after another Wembley loss, while Charlton, Mike Dean’s Tranmere and Celtic are in dreamland. There’s also a look ahead to the Europa League final and a special mention for one Chris Wondolowski.Search ‘Football Ramble’ on social media to find us, and email us here: show@thefootballramble.com***Please take the time to rate and review us on Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your pods. Shearer’s Jag: Transfers, play-off finals and Europa League gripes
There’s barely any football happening but we don’t even care, there’s still room to talk about possible double agent Petr Cech, Rushin’ Ray Parlour and the hugely exciting prospect of Mike Dean stealing the show from the Wembley stands as his beloved Tranmere take on Newport County. We also discuss the possibility of selling Ed Woodward a horse, Sunderland’s Roman inspiration and Marcus fronting up to a notorious criminal organisation. I heart Hearts: Man City secure the quadruple, Kompany bows out and Wolves make Europe
As the dust and ticker tape settles on the domestic season it’s Man City that have won it all. A comprehensive gubbing of Watford leaves us equal parts impressed and terrified for the future, though it turns out that Newcastle United have also won some silverware this season, if you’re a bit sloppy with the details, which clearly we are. Peering around the rest of the game we discover that the guy with the bell is no longer the worst Portsmouth fan, that Tony Pulis’ usefulness has come to an end at Middlesbrough and that Cardiff Metropolitan University FC are a name to look out for in Europe next season. Celestial Teal: The FA Cup final, the Playoffs and your headliner… Mike Dean
Leeds, oh, Leeds. When will their nightmare end? Not yet, apparently. Frank Lampard’s Derby and Dean Smith’s Aston Villa will face off at Wembley after a frantic pair of play-off semi-finals.There’s also a look ahead at a juicy FA Cup final, a theory on what Jose Mourinho was really getting up to in that hotel, questions about Pep Guardiola’s cardigan - or is it cardigi? - and some fairly tortured Watford puns, chipped in by one of you lot.And yes, we saw Mike Dean celebrating Tranmere’s win over Forest Green Rovers.
