EP 305: Naked Life Story - Wendy

The first time Wendy got drunk, she was 15 years old. She vomited on a police officer and her parents. In college and law school her drinking looked like everyone else’s - partying once or twice a week, bingeing from time to time. Casual drinking didn’t begin until she started practicing law. And, when she and her husband had trouble conceiving, drinking shifted from being an enjoyable social pleasure to a coping mechanism, using wine to relax, unwind, and escape. Wendy talks about how she was able to stop drinking once she stopped trying harder and tried something different. Did you miss This Naked Mind Live? Do you maybe have a little bit of FOMO? Don't worry. I've got you covered. In fact, I had the entire event professionally recorded and it's available digitally. Transformation in your living room, yup, that is what it's all about. EP 303: Naked Life Story - Jackie

After graduation, her heavy weekend alcohol use continued, ultimately becoming much worse following the unexpected death of her father. Deeply depressed, Jackie never felt the need to moderate her drinking, however it was important to her that others not suspect she had a problem with alcohol. In today’s episode, Jackie talks about how she became suicidal during blackouts and what ultimately shook her to her core and changed everything.  Hey, it’s Annie Grace. EP 302: Reader Question - Why do you tell people to keep drinking?

The first step in changing your relationship with alcohol is to stop trying to stop drinking. Wait. What? It’s counterintuitive. It’s controversial. It’s what makes This Naked Mind - the book, the methodology, everything - so different from anything else. There’s a very good reason we do things this way. So, take a breath, let yourself off the hook, and listen as Annie Grace busts the myths and clarifies what exactly she means when she says, “Stop trying to stop drinking.” If you asked me about the one thing that makes This Naked Mind so different from anything else, I would have to say emotion. It is the emotion when people feel really ready to make a change, when they’ve had that mindset shift, when they’ve gone through all the materials and the methodology and they get this feeling that it’s not that they never get to drink again it's that they never have to drink again. And, interestingly, according to all sorts of new research, it is emotion, especially positive emotion, more than anything else that predicates how long a change will stick, how long it will last. It is emotion. When you feel excited about a change in your life. When you feel thrilled you’re making this new difference, instead of feeling deprived like you’re missing out, everything changes. And it really makes it that This Naked Mind can stick for the long term. If you want to know more about how to truly change your emotion around drinking, I want you to join me at nakedmindpath.com. It is the path to changing your emotion and changing your feelings and really finding freedom in your relationship with alcohol.  And as always, rate, review, and subscribe to this podcast as it truly helps the message reach somebody who might need to hear it today.

EP 300: Reader Question - Why am I triggered to drink when I’m feeling good?

“Dear Annie: Today I was feeling pretty good about myself and what I was accomplishing and suddenly I had a craving. Normally I crave when I'm trying to avoid or numb a negative emotion, so I was confused. Acknowledging how good I was feeling, and my own goodness and beauty, makes me uncomfortable and I wanted to numb out those good feelings. When I realized it's easier to believe the negative things about myself than it is to believe the positive things about myself, I got really sad.” In today’s episode, Annie Grace shares her thoughts about how to deal with these cravings and explains why she always says, “Celebrate the awareness, no matter how painful it is.” Hey, it’s Annie Grace. I want to tell you about the most important book that I never wrote. I mean that. This is This Naked Life. It is 48 true stories of people finding freedom from alcohol. And, it’s so inspiring.
