EP 390: Coaching Questions with Scott Pinyard
On this month’s coaching episode, This Naked Mind Head Coach Scott Pinyard welcomes This Naked Mind Senior Coach Rob Wolman as his guest host. After a brief discussion about Rob’s specialized approach to shifting your mindset, they answer two great questions: How do people quit drinking among those who are continuing to drink? Can we talk about how many times I've tried to quit? How can I shake the feeling that trying this is just a waste of time? And, finally, Scott tosses his signature curveball question to Rob. So, if you asked me about the one thing that makes This Naked Mind so different from anything else I would have to say emotion. Is the emotion people feel when they're really ready to make a change, when they've had that mindset shift, when they've gone through all the materials and the methodology, and they get this feeling that they're never going to get to drink again, they let that go and they think, "Oh my gosh, I never have to drink again." That change in emotion. And honestly, according to all sorts of new research, it is emotion, especially positive emotion more than anything else that predicates how long a change in our behavior will stick, how long it will last. It's emotion. And so when you feel excited about a change in your life, when you're thrilled, you're making this new different change instead of feeling deprived or like you've been missing out, everything changes. And that's really what makes This Naked Mind stick for the long-term. That's what makes it so different is we focus on how you feel and truly change your emotion around drinking. And if that sounds interesting to you, I want you to check out our self guided PATH at nakedmindpath.com. Enrollment in this program is closing on June 11th. So you don't want to miss it. It's closing now. And this is the path to changing your emotion and changing your feelings so that you can really truly find freedom in your relationship with alcohol. And as always, rate, review, and subscribe to this podcast as it helps the message reach somebody who might need to hear it today. Episode Links: Learn More About Rob

EP 389: Naked Life Story - Carol
Carol dabbled in drinking in her teens - with older siblings and friends in the woods after school and on weekends. She recalls being very controlled, never getting sick. All that changed in her 20s and 30s when she moved to Italy and became interested in wine as a tour guide. Carol used her profession as an excuse to drink more than needed. Eventually, she abstained from drinking during trips. But she made up for it in the weeks in between until she got sick and tired of feeling sick and tired. Cleanses and fasts, sobriety programs and 12-step … nothing clicked for Carol until she found This Naked Mind. Tune in to hear how she navigated lockdown in Italy during the pandemic and how she has made sobriety her superpower. So, if you asked me about the one thing that makes This Naked Mind so different from anything else I would have to say emotion. Is the emotion people feel when they're really ready to make a change, when they've had that mindset shift, when they've gone through all the materials and the methodology, and they get this feeling that they're never going to get to drink again, they let that go and they think, "Oh my gosh, I never have to drink again." EP 388: Reader Question: How do I stay sober as an isolated stay-at-home mom?
A reader asks, “How can I stay sober as a stay-at-home mom with a spouse who works outside of the home? We don't have the option of childcare for several reasons. My family isn't nearby and my spouse helps as much as possible when he's home but I feel exhausted and selfish for wanting time to myself.” Annie Grace shares her thoughts about being selflessly selfish and deconstructing our beliefs about alcohol’s power to make us less miserable. So, if you asked me about the one thing that makes This Naked Mind so different from anything else I would have to say emotion. Is the emotion people feel when they're really ready to make a change, when they've had that mindset shift, when they've gone through all the materials and the methodology, and they get this feeling that they're never going to get to drink again, they let that go and they think, "Oh my gosh, I never have to drink again." EP 387: Naked Life Story - Lisa
Lisa’s 30-year drinking career began when she was around 17 years old. She was working in an office and going down to the local bar at lunchtime was part of the Australian culture, something she had to do to fit in. A people pleaser, Lisa always chose jobs that fed her need to make others happy. And, she used alcohol to cope with anything life threw at her. Despite nearly dying at one point and thinking she had learned her lesson and could moderate, Lisa continued drinking to excess. Her marriage and work suffered. Her mental and physical health suffered. In this episode, Lisa shares how she found freedom from alcohol and how joining The PATH by This Naked Mind was like coming home. So, if you asked me about the one thing that makes This Naked Mind so different from anything else I would have to say emotion. Is the emotion people feel when they're really ready to make a change, when they've had that mindset shift, when they've gone through all the materials and the methodology, and they get this feeling that they're never going to get to drink again, they let that go and they think, "Oh my gosh, I never have to drink again." EP 383: Naked Life Story - Jim
On today’s episode, Annie Grace talks with This Naked Mind Coach Jim. Introduced to beer when he was about 10 years old, Jim remembers getting to have a few sips on holidays and special occasions. He used fake IDs in the late 60s and early 70s when driver's licenses were paper and changing your birth date was simple. Always a beer drinker, Jim started making wine and using it to quiet anxiety and help him sleep following his divorce. A pharmacist for more than 40 years, Jim recalls patients handing him back their medication when he told them they couldn’t drink alcohol while taking it. Now “faster and funnier” without alcohol, today Jim helps others find freedom from alcohol or, as he puts it, the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Hi. Super exciting news. So The Alcohol Experiment book is being released. Actually it got released just a few days ago with the expanded edition. What does expanded edition mean? It means that every single day throughout the book there are deep reflective journal entries that have been added with space to write which is so cool and so exciting. So you really make it your own. And, the reason I did this is because I truly believe that the deepest wisdom you will access throughout the 30 days of The Alcohol Experiment comes from within you. You know more about what’s best for you than anybody else in the entire world. And I know sometimes that can be hard to believe but when you really access your own wisdom it is so profound. So you can pick up your own copy at alcoholexperimentbook.com and check it out. It’s really powerful. EP 382: Coaching Questions with Scott Pinyard
On this month’s coaching episode, This Naked Mind Head Coach Scott Pinyard welcomes This Naked Mind Senior Coach Pam McRae as his guest host. After a brief discussion about Pam’s work specializing in helping people through grief and loss while staying alcohol free, they answer three great questions: If I am not an alcoholic, what am I? How can I explain my situation to people? How do you manage a partner who doesn't want to cut back on their alcohol consumption? With COVID I feel like I’ve lost my life; I am alcohol free but really starting to struggle - do you have any tips for how to deal with where I am right now? And, finally, Scott tosses his signature curveball question to Pam. Let me ask you a question. What is better than change? Lasting change, of course. If you've had trouble making change stick, either with alcohol or in any other area of your life, you are in for a treat. I created the 100 Days of Lasting Change to ensure that we don't just change for a moment, but we truly transform for a lifetime. This program is so close to my heart. EP 381: Naked Life Story - Lauren
As a child in a family where alcoholism ran rampant, Lauren used to pour bottles of wine down the drain and break packs of cigarettes. There was emotional neglect in her home and by fourth grade she was experiencing anxiety and panic attacks. Lauren felt the pain, loneliness, and pressure to be perfect, all while keeping her family’s secret. Alcohol had been a turn off for Lauren, but in college she slowly fell into binge drinking. Despite her high GPA and marathon training, Lauren’s drinking was the talk of the next day and her behavior was the butt of drinking jokes. After college, her drinking escalated - Lauren romanticized drinking and being lost and not having it all together as an escape from the perfection she felt expected to portray. The double life felt gross, but she couldn’t get her drinking under control. Lauren had 35 day ones. Listen to hear what finally changed, how she stopped drinking, and what life looks like now. Lauren also tells her story, "Young, Wild, and Stuck," in This Naked Life: 48 True Stories of Finding Freedom from Alcohol. Have you tried The Alcohol Experiment?
