511 || how to deal with manipulative people

"in coping with manipulation, it’s best to follow four basic principles: Know your rights and your limits; set clear, appropriate boundaries in a respectful and neutral way; recognize and avoid the other person’s efforts to escalate the conflict or muddy the issue; and always make sure to protect your own safety."RESOURCES: https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/i-hear-you/201807/4-ways-deal-manipulative-peoplehttps://www.goodtherapy.org/blog/psychpedia/manipulationDONATE IF YOU CAN: https://secure.actblue.com/donate/givetolocalfundsGO AD FREE: www.patreon.com/mydbpodcastSEE MY FACE + OTHER CONTENT: www.youtube.com/juliemerica GET A MONTHLY NOTE FROM ME: www.makeyourdamnbedpodcast.com TUNE IN ON INSTAGRAM FOR DAILY(ish) QUOTES: www.instagram.com/mydbpodcastLUH YOU.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/make-your-damn-bed. 510 || too proud to neg

Negging (derived from the verb neg, meaning "negative feedback") is an act of emotional manipulation whereby a person makes a deliberate backhanded compliment or otherwise flirtatious remark to another person to undermine their confidence and increase their need of the manipulator's approval.DONATE IF YOU CAN: https://secure.actblue.com/donate/givetolocalfundsGO AD FREE: www.patreon.com/mydbpodcastSEE MY FACE + OTHER CONTENT: www.youtube.com/juliemerica GET A MONTHLY NOTE FROM ME: www.makeyourdamnbedpodcast.com TUNE IN ON INSTAGRAM FOR DAILY(ish) QUOTES: www.instagram.com/mydbpodcastLUH YOU.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/make-your-damn-bed. 509 || avoiding the love bomb

Lovebombing: A common manipulation technique is love bombing: "Love bombing" refers to behavior patterns where, at the beginning of the relationship, a partner showers the other with over-the-top attention, gifts, affection, etc. See: Kanye West's truckload of roses gesture...https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/basics/love-bombing: "Genuine affection is mutual and should unfold at a pace that is comfortable for both parties. Love bombing, by contrast, tends to feel one-sided—with one partner showering the other with gifts, praise, and declarations of love—and moves at a pace where one partner feels overwhelmed or as if they’re caught up in a whirlwind. Someone repeatedly crossing stated boundaries—even if they claim to have positive motives for doing so—may also be an indicator of manipulative intentions. Similarly, while it’s normal for new partners to spend a lot of time together, feeling isolated from one’s family and friends because one is spending all their time with a new love interest may suggest that the relationship is falling into unhealthy patterns."Resource/inspiration: https://www.instagram.com/climateresilienceproject/DONATE IF YOU CAN: https://secure.actblue.com/donate/givetolocalfundsGO AD FREE: www.patreon.com/mydbpodcastSEE MY FACE + OTHER CONTENT: www.youtube.com/juliemerica GET A MONTHLY NOTE FROM ME: www.makeyourdamnbedpodcast.com TUNE IN ON INSTAGRAM FOR DAILY(ish) QUOTES: www.instagram.com/mydbpodcastLUH YOU.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/make-your-damn-bed. 508 || how to spot a gaslight

gaslighting: manipulating (someone) by psychological means into doubting their own sanity. Maybe by: telling blatant lies, deny everything despite proof, make you question your reality, blackmail you, wear you down over time, gain your confidence + confuse you with infrequent rewards, project their shit onto you, try to align others against ya, make you feel or call you crazy or a liar. Noticing + calling out patterns can be what breaks them. You got this. Don't let people distort reality to accommodate their feelings. 507 || let them struggle

trying to control and manage someone else's journey + struggle may feel like a way to show love, but it's really a way to take a piece of their experience away from them. struggle = potential to learn and grow. and unfortunately we can't grow without it.PLEASE DONATE IF YOU CAN: https://secure.actblue.com/donate/givetolocalfundsGO AD FREE: www.patreon.com/mydbpodcastSEE MY FACE + OTHER CONTENT: www.youtube.com/juliemerica GET A MONTHLY NOTE FROM ME: www.makeyourdamnbedpodcast.com TUNE IN ON INSTAGRAM FOR DAILY(ish) QUOTES: www.instagram.com/mydbpodcastSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/make-your-damn-bed. 504 || the subtle art of not giving a fuck taught me || part two

PART TWO - please listen to yesterday's episode before beginning this one. You are responsible for everything that has happened to you in you’re life. You get robbed? Whether you hand your purse over, or run, or choose to do nothing. You are responsible for it. You may not be to blame for the robbery but you are burdened with the responsibilities of the repurcussions. That’s just what life is. It is a series of responsibilities thrust upon our shoulders. How we react and adapt and grow is the only thing we should worry about. The person you marry is the person you will have to argue with. Problems are inevitable. You can control who you choose to face them with. There’s a power in just starting. You want to live a better life? Start reading self help books for 10 minutes a day. Commit yourself to give a fuck about the things that can support the life you want to create.Read my blog post I wrote about the book here: https://makeyourdamnbed.medium.com/032-subtle-art-of-not-giving-a-fuck-stream-of-consciousness-5154444e8f6PLEASE DONATE IF YOU CAN: https://secure.actblue.com/donate/givetolocalfundsGO AD FREE: www.patreon.com/mydbpodcastSEE MY FACE + OTHER CONTENT: www.youtube.com/juliemerica GET A MONTHLY NOTE FROM ME: www.makeyourdamnbedpodcast.com TUNE IN ON INSTAGRAM FOR DAILY(ish) QUOTES: www.instagram.com/mydbpodcastOh yeah, and vote! 503 || the subtle art of not giving a fuck taught me || part one

My lessons from reading Mark Manson's Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck: Who you are is defined by what you’re willing to struggle for. It’s not about not giving a fuck, it’s about changing your perspective to only give a fuck about the things that really matter, instead of all the other bullshit. We all have problems. It’s a human condition. It’s just about creating better problems.Happiness is not an ending, it’s merely a side-effect of solving good problems. (Thus, problems are actually critical to us being happy.) It becomes about finding problems you enjoy solving.Being the best at something is an outlier and a nearly impossible thing to strive for. Embrace mediocrity. The more you fail at something, the more successful you become in that thing. Embrace failure. You are always going to be wrong. That’s what growth is. Real success is found in becoming a little less wrong every day.Every problem in history has been had before and will be had again. Maybe not the specific circumstances, but the particular feelings you are feeling has been felt before. You are not special. This should be comforting! It means you’re never alone and historically people know how to rock this problem! It also means you can always seek out some help.Read my blog post I wrote about the book here: https://makeyourdamnbed.medium.com/032-subtle-art-of-not-giving-a-fuck-stream-of-consciousness-5154444e8f6 PLEASE DONATE IF YOU CAN: https://secure.actblue.com/donate/givetolocalfundsGO AD FREE: www.patreon.com/mydbpodcastSEE MY FACE + OTHER CONTENT: www.youtube.com/juliemerica GET A MONTHLY NOTE FROM ME: www.makeyourdamnbedpodcast.com TUNE IN ON INSTAGRAM FOR DAILY(ish) QUOTES: www.instagram.com/mydbpodcastOh yeah, and vote!
