CW: ED + BIAS; Our society isn't built for people who exist within so many various human bodies, and then has the audacity to imply that the same human bodies who were overlooked + or disregarded is the problem. This completely overlooks the systems that created + implemented the problem. This makes it nearly impossible to not pick up on some of that disregard. CW: (anti-fat bias, ED) - lately, I've been in a bit of a funk and it took me a while to realize that my aversion to considering anything about my 'weight' or 'body' was part of the problem. It's taken me years to unlearn the insecurities gifted to me by a capitalistic society built on shame + guilt, and it's taken me even longer to realize the size of the shadow that has been cast because of it. Redirecting my self-criticism and unlearning my propensity for self-hatred has made my life more infinite and abundant than 'society's perfect body' ever could. 660 || empathy burnout
Remember, being empathetic is a kind way to respond to people’s emotional experiences, but isn’t helpful if we’re not conscious of how that is affecting our own. When we direct all of our attention outward, we become unbalanced + disconnected from our own needs - which makes us less effective at addressing anyone’s needs (our own or someone else’s). It’s easy to become codependent (mirror moods, chameleon your energy to appease, anticipate other people’s needs) and lose sight of your independence out of fear of “upsetting others”. Check in with yourself by asking things like: Am I resentful of other people’s emotions + lack of gratitude, am I having trouble setting boundaries, am I struggling with putting your own emotional wellbeing above my perceived predicted reactions of others, am I unable to communicate clearly so I often resort to passive aggressive comments instead?
