Andrea Strong, ROAR
On today's episode of All in the Industry®, Shari Bayer's guest is Andrea Strong, Executive Director of ROAR, a nonprofit founded in March 2020 in NYC by a group of industry professionals impassioned to fight for unemployed restaurant workers facing financial hardship and to advocate for an industry in crisis. Over the course of her career, Andrea has been a lawyer, a restaurant manager, a waitress, a farm hand, a humanitarian activist, and for two decades, a journalist - known for her pioneering food blog, The Strong Buzz, covering the intersection of food, business, policy and the law. Her work appears in The New York Times, Food & Wine, New York Magazine, Heated, Eater, and more. Her most recent cookbook, Good for You: Bold Flavors with Benefits, written with chef Akhtar Nawab, was published in August 2020. With two young children in public school in Brooklyn, Andrea began to focus on improving school food in 2015. She founded the Wellness Council at PS 261 in 2016, and in October of 2018, she founded the NYC Healthy School Food Alliance, an advocacy group pushing for holistic school food reform across New York City. Omar Tate and Cybille St. Aude-Tate, Honeysuckle Projects

First, Omar Tate, a chef, artist, and cofounder of Honeysuckle Projects, a multifaceted food company that focuses on the nuanced cultures and cuisines of the Black diaspora. Omar has emerged as a visionary and a leading thinker on the restaurant industry’s cultural development as a whole. He specifically focuses on race and ethnicity to tear down structural barriers through his practice in Honeysuckle, his pop-up cultural concept. In 2020, Honeysuckle was named pop up of the year by Esquire Magazine and in 2021, Time Magazine named Omar as one of the 100 innovators to watch as part of their Time100Next list. And second, Cybille St.Aude-Tate, a Haitian American chef & children’s book author, who is a partner in Honeysuckle Projects with her husband Omar. Between her sixteen year career in the restaurant industry & degree in African American Studies specializing in Caribbean culture & aesthetics in America, she has found a niche in cultivating a relative Caribbean food experience that expands the narrative of her identity. Cybille is currently hosting modern Haitian gastronomy pop-ups through CAONA and freelancing as a private chef/culinary consultant with Earthseed Provisions, a food studio she co-founded in the New York metro area. First, Mark Iacono, well revered pizzaiolo and owner of Lucali in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn, which he founded in 2006 and has since received national recognition. Mark recently opened Baby Luc's, a new slice shop down the block from Lucali, plus, he’s expanded his beloved pizzeria to Miami. Prior to finding Lucali, Mark worked in construction and focused on granite and marble fabrication. He has starred in multiple shows including Netflix's Ugly Delicious, The Pizza Show and Munchies. And, secondly, Billy Durney, owner of Hometown Bar-B-Que in Red Hook, Industry City and Miami, and Red Hook Tavern in Red Hook, Brooklyn.
