Marty Haynes is the host of i98fm’s breakfast radio show. Having spent nearly 20 years as Illawarra radios top dog, Marty is not only a skilled professional within his field but one of the most genuine and kind-hearted men I have had the pleasure of speaking too.In this episode we talk about the $16,000,000 and more he has raised with his charity The Illawarra Convoy. An initiative inspired by a young man who later lost his battle with cancer, the foundation has gone on to help so many who are suffering from the terrible illness every year.We cover Marty’s family, his work on the Illawarra’s favourite radio show and some of the lessons he has learned in this journey called life.A truly amazing human being. In this episode i go in deep on my life story and why I am the man I am today.Having being diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at birth I face the odds of a grim life expectancy and the daily ritual of consuming 50 tablets and working on my health.However, life is like a game of poker. You are dealt a hand to play with and it's out of your control. If you choose to fold early and throw in your chips then your game is finished but if you choose to hold on, keep the faith and you wait for the river (that last card) your life might just get a whole lot richer.I owe my life to my family. My dad (Darren), mum (Dianne) & sister (Shania) are my rocks. With out them my life would look a lot different and i have created this podcast platform because like my family has done for me, one person, one story or one conversation can change your life for the better. Joe is a good friend.His passion for videography is clear in his work. Having worked with rising starts in the hip hop space, Chillinit & Horror Show Crew (just to name a few) Joe's talent is in high demand.We touch on the 6 weeks Joe spent in his fathers home land of Ghana in 2019 where Joe was inducted into the royal family. His Aunty is a King in their village and we discussed what that means and how that changed his experience.Not only is Joe a great friend of mine but rather a guy I lean on for advice and to bounce ideas off, In this episode we discussed the importance of pursuing your true happiness and how important it is to live a life that fulfils you. In 2018 Jack was touched by suicide.Jacks good friend Matt Simpson lost his life to suicide. Leaving behind loving family and friends.In the wake of Matt's passing his wife Kristy started the hashtag #talk2mebro to raise awareness for mens mental health and encourage men to reach out to their mates when they weren't feeling 100%.The organisation has gone on to help so many in its first 2 years and will continue to do so.Jack and I speak about his own battle with depression as a teenager and how he keeps himself mentally fit to ensure he is living life with a smile inside and out.
