For those of you who haven’t heard my story - several years ago I went from totally healthy and normal, to in just a matter of hours, becoming completely and totally paralyzed because of a rare autoimmune disorder called Guillain-Barré syndrome. In a single immediate moment my life and my family’s lives were turned upside down. At first no one even knew what I had. The doctors couldn’t figure it out and even sent me home. Only for me to return to the hospital as paralysis began to take hold. It was terrifying and uncertain times, but this was just the beginning. I’m here today to tell you my story. Some of you might already know of me and my story, but today is something a bit more in depth in regard to the whole experience. Because as awful and difficult as it all was, yes, it was the best thing that ever happened to me. You’ll have to tune in to learn why. I’ve found that the various types of real and perceived risks are vastly unknown, and vastly misunderstood. Obviously this can be a huge problem for us whether we’re entrepreneurs, employees, investors… no matter what we are. The fact is - risk cannot ever be totally eliminated. We can only control so much. So then, how do we effectively manage risk? These are great questions and ideas, and this is exactly what we’re diving into on today’s podcast. I break risk down into three pillars and we expand from there. The keys here - we should understand risk and know not only how to face it, but how to deal with and manage risk productively.
