JOCKO WILLINK | The Dichotomy of Leadership

Extreme Ownership is a philosophy that has been coined by Navy SEALs, Jocko Willink and Leif Babin, and one that most of you listening are familiar with. But when does extreme ownership become too much? That's a question my guest, Jocko Willink, has answered in his new book, The Dichotomy of Leadership. Today, we explore that question, how to avoid taking things too far, how to overcome your own ego when you recognize it, how to strike the balance between caring for your team and placing the mission first, and so much more. SHOW HIGHLIGHTS How to get into Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu How Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu translates into everyday life How to remove your ego from the equation When extreme ownership becomes a problem How to avoid taking things too far How and why you should allow your subordinates to lead The dichotomy of caring about your team but putting the mission first How to best honor the fallen The meaning of duty When to allow slack and when not to The importance of appearance in leadership Why you should make your boss look great When you should and shouldn't tell the truth to your team Why you should avoid "false cheerleading" Why making things fun for your children is critical towards their development How to use the practice of "flanking" in leadership How to overcome your own ego when you recognize it JOCKO WILLINK My guest today is a man who needs no introduction. His name is Jocko Willink and this is the third time I've been fortunate enough to interview him for this podcast. Today, we cover his new book, The Dichotomy of Leadership (which is sure to be a New York Times Bestseller), the follow-up to Extreme Ownership. As you are all well aware, Jocko is a Navy SEAL and was the commander of Task Unit Bruiser, the most highly-decorated special forces unit of the Iraq War. I was fortunate enough to spend some time with him a couple weeks ago at Origin's Immersion Camp and I can tell you that this is a man who lives what he preaches. I saw a perspective of him through his instruction and stories from his team that only solidifies my respect for who he is as a veteran, husband, father, and man. No One Owes You a Thing | FRIDAY FIELD NOTES

It seems there's a growing trend of entitlement in society today. Everywhere you turn, people are demanding results they haven't earned - a minimum wage, job security, health insurance, happiness, a minimum standard of living, etc., etc., etc. Then, they have the audacity to complain when they don't get exactly what they want. It's sickening, to say the least. Today, I share 5 simple strategies for overcoming the entitlement mentality and how to get more out of life. www.orderofman.com/FFN124 Please leave us a rating and review!

There is no question, our boys are in trouble. The questions is not, "Is it happening?" but, "Why?" Today I am joined by Dr. Warren Farrell, a leader in understanding the issues our boys are facing. We talk about how men have fallen into a "purpose void," why boys need to be raised differently than girls, the rise of the Incels, and how to deal with the emerging boy crisis. The Softer Side of Violence | IAN STRIMBECK

Violence isn't a word a lot of people believe should be attributed to men and his responsibilities. We know that isn't true because we believe that the ability to violence is not only within us, it can be harnessed to keep ourselves and others protected from those who wish to do violence to us. Today, I am joined by Marine Corps Veteran, Ian Strimbeck to talk about why every man should learn how to harness the darker side of masculinity. We cover so much in this podcast including harnessing effective verbalization skills, how to get better at predicting human behavior, the power of intuition and how to use it effectively, and how to develop and harness the softer side of violence. SHOW HIGHLIGHTS Developing the soft skills required to face adversity The difference between software and hardware when it comes to facing threats Why every man needs to wrap his head around potential violence How to avoid "target fixation" How to develop and harness effective verbalization skills How to get better at predicting human behavior How the skills for violence are translatable to everyday life Why we should learn to tap into our primal roots The importance of humility in keeping yourself and other safe Learning not to make yourself a target The power of intuition and how to use it effectively The four cues you should be aware of in others when looking for threats How "profiling" can keep you alive The correct priority of engagement How to use appearance as a deterrent Why establishing baseline behavior in others is so crucial IAN STRIMBECK My guest today is veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Ian Strimbeck. Ian reached out a couple months ago and, as I was preparing for this conversation, I was extremely impressed by his resume as a veteran and warrior in not only the military but in the executive protection space. He's taken what he has learned on the battlefield and now teaches those who want to be better protectors of themselves and the people they have a responsibility for. This was such a fascinating discussion with an extremely fascinating man and I think, not only are you going to enjoy our conversation, you're going to walk away with some information that could just save your life. 179: How to Develop More Grit | Brian Call

We live in a culture of ultimate softness but there seems to be a resurgence of men who understand the value of being tough, resilient, and gritty. These are the men I aspire to be more like because I understand how crucial it is, as Theodore Roosevelt states, to "keep the barbarian virtues." Today, I am joined by my friend, Brian Call, AKA Gritty, to talk about how hunting and connecting with nature makes you tougher, why we need to learn from the men who have gone before, the role parents play in developing fortitude in their children, and how you can develop more grit. SHOW HIGHLIGHTS How to get started in bow hunting How hunting makes you tougher Developing discipline through hobbies The dangers of being disconnected from your food How the mass of our meat gets processed Why eating meat is not unethical How hunting creates a wide range of emotional sorrow and joy Why you need to learn from men who have gone before How to keep calm in a potentially dangerous situation The role parents play in developing grit in their children The danger of the "outrage society" in which we live Why it's not a good idea to search for "happiness" How to overcome fear and weakness through exposure How minimalism helps you become free BRIAN CALL Gentlemen, today I have the honor of introducing you to my friend, Brian Call. He is an avid bow hunter and the founder and host of the Gritty Podcast where he talks all things bowhunting and developing more grit. I've been following him and his work for quite some time now and I finally had the chance to connect with him in this candid interview. What really resonates with me about Brian is his willingness to share not only his victories but his setbacks and how he's managed to overcome them. I hope you enjoy this powerful conversation with a man I really admire and respect.
