One Autism Mom's Truth

Like Autism Live on Facebook at http://facebook.com/autismlive Autism Mom Shannon Penrod shares a moment of truth about Autism that came during a 9/11 ceremony she attended with a group of children on the Autism Spectrum. All children with Autism Spectrum Disorder are different, they face different challenges and they learn at different rates and in different ways. Still, quality ABA therapy has been scientifically shown to be effective at creating real progress for children on the spectrum. Countless studies have shown that if quality ABA is done in the right amount (24-40 hours a week over a period of 2-4 years) and is started early enough (ages 2-4 ½) that close to 50% of those children will have such significant gains they will no longer qualify for an Autism Spectrum Disorder diagnosis. Are we, as a society, willing to disregard the progress that all of our children can make?
