Vault Classic: Vince Paikowski won the Best Ranger Competition in 2020, using EvokeEndurance training principles. Here, Scott Johnston talks with Vince about his background, and how he and his partner prepared, trained, and executed. Since then, Vince has either coached or developed training plans for most of the top-ten finishers of the Best Ranger Competition in the subsequent years.Over the past eight years, numerous Evoke coaches have worked with individual members of US and foreign military branches as they prepare for demanding selection processes for their various Special Operations. These selections are true ultra-endurance events that last for weeks, with the candidates navigating very rough terrain, covering long distances, and carrying heavy weight -- blending physical, mental, and tactical skill with limited calories and sleep.

#22 Doctor Monica Piris On Common Medical Problems At High Altitude And How To Avoid Them
Monica Piris MD has worked as a doctor on expeditions to extreme altitudes since 2007, having gone on more than twenty expeditions to the Himalayas, including fourteen trips to 8000 meter peaks, and ten expeditions to Mount Everest. On these trips her work has ranged from monitoring the health of team-members throughout the preparatory period and expedition itself; treating locals and visitors for common illnesses; treating frostbite and potentially fatal altitude-related illness; and offering diagnostic and therapeutic advice over the radio to unwell climbers being rescued above 8000 meters.
