EP 269: Rehab Barbie Creator Claire Comai sits with Polly
Polly sits with Claire Comai who developed a wonderful sober resource, Rehabbarbie.com where she takes her passion for fashion in a direction that makes her proud of her sobriety and celebrates recovery. Removing the stigma surrounding mental health and addiction and helping show how proud we are of our recovery.
Who We Are
Rehab Barbie is a brand born from REAL people and their REAL journeys of recovery from addiction and mental illness. Our aim is to create a collection that celebrates and inspires recovery in others.
Our Story
Rehab Barbie is founded on the principal that dealing with mental illness and addiction is not something to be ashamed of. Like any other disease or condition that effects humankind, these illnesses are a product of disordered function in our body. In those who suffer from heart disease, diabetes or cancer, the disease attacks the body's heart, pancreas or cells. In mental illness and addiction, the disease attacks the brain. Yet, a cloud of stigma and shame often surrounding diseases like addiction, depression, schizophrenia, PTSD, bipolar disorder and eating disorders, often leaving those who suffer from them unable or unwilling to seek out treatments that could save their lives.
Our brand is about shedding the anonymity and speaking out against the stigma. Recovery is something to celebrated, not kept secret. We’re here to commemorate everyone who has ever struggled and won against these diseases and to inspire and support those still sick, still suffering and STILL fighting. Whatever your journey may be, wherever you are in it, we hope you’ll share it with us.

EP 265: Experience, muscle memory and habits - Positive Recovery with Corinna
Experience, muscle memory and habits
Positive Recovery with Corinna
Everything happens for a reason and our experiences make us who we are today. Our coping strategies from these experiences become part of out muscle memory and we form habits which can be like a default switch. Some are helpful, others not so. We may think alcohol is wonderful and helps us through life, but eventually we come to realize this actually does us far more harm than good. Some of these headings, and much more, are in my book: The A-Z of Alcohol and Sobriety: Everything you need to know - available worldwide on Amazon.
Keep focusing on controlling the things you can and not resisting the things you cannot.

EP 263: Walking Back to Happiness, The Secret To Alcohol-Free Living & Well-Being
Corinna sits with Nigel Jones to talk about his book and sobriety and have an absolutely amazing conversation!!
"Aimed at millions of drinkers around the world who are interested in taking a break from alcohol, WALKING BACK TO HAPPINESS reveals the secret of how drinkers can free themselves from alcohol's control.
Where the standard willpower method fails, this unique and easy-to-follow approach is proven to succeed. It shows how by quitting drinking you can transform your body, mind, life and find true happiness.
The story of how a 50-something-year-old, who had been locked into the habit of drinking alcohol for over 35 years, finally woke up and said, "I want a different life"; how he found his purpose and in doing so transformed his mind and body; how he lost 30% of his body weight and made anxiety and sleepless nights a thing of the past.
You don’t have to be an alcoholic to stop drinking. You just need to recognise that your relationship with alcohol can lead to life-changing issues – not just for you but for your loved ones, your work colleagues, in fact, everyone you are connected to.
In WALKING BACK TO HAPPINESS, the author shares ALL the obstacles he faced, the wisdom he gained and the challenges he overcame during the first year of going alcohol-free.
Set out in six sections: Time To Act - Day 1; The Journey Begins - The First Few Days; Discovering The New You - The First Few Weeks; Understanding The New You - The First Few Months; The New You - Beyond 90 Days; A New Life - One Year & Beyond.
The book will help you: Identify your values; Cement your beliefs; Find your purpose; Reduce your anxiety; Lose weight; Improve your well-being; Discover the power of mindfulness & meditation; Be more present; Unleash your alcohol-free superpower; and Transform your mind & body".
Each chapter covers: The Author’s Story; What He Learnt; Steps You Can Take; and Key Learning Summaries.
“Nigel’s story is a brilliant example of how you can transform your health and happiness starting with one simple change - taking a break from alcohol. Absolute must read, this is not only a wonderful story of transformation, it is a fantastic self-help, health and happiness book rolled into one. EP 261: Doug aka Saddle Tramp’s Recovery Story
My name is Doug, aka saddle_tramp on the IAS app. Not my first rodeo, got exposed to AA and the concepts of recovery as a child of 21 in the USAF overseas. Stayed clean and sober 3 weeks that time. Many moons later, crawled back into AA, and discovered the concept of online recovery in the form of sober24.com, a most magical and wonderful place and time. At this writing, I haven't had a drink since August 31, 2001, haven't smoked weed alcoholically since 9/9/2019, and haven't had a cigarette since last November.
Today, I owe my sobriety to a few local AA groups(Psychic Change in Auburn, Washington, the Edmonds Group, and Thursday Night Spiritual in Everett), my recovery circle at the Everett Recovery Cafe, the IAS app, and the kids from the app that started the whole zoom deal to supplement their recovery outside of the app. I appreciate having the opportunity to be of service to the community here, and to meet so many of you as we trudge the sober trails together!
