If it’s a world you are unfamiliar with, these are issues that may not have entered your consciousness before so it’s a fascinating and deeply interesting way of finding out more about the day to day work of Headway, the worlds of those who benefit from their work, and also the very human side of dealing with the effects of such injury. A true masterclass in the complex and nuanced art of refereeing, about which Marc expounds on perfectly as he goes over past bouts, the success stories as well as the calls that still haunt him, the old days of UFC when it was all on VHS with only two rules (no biting and no eye gouging), the development of the sport from being a spectacle, his involvement with IMMAF (International Mixed Martial Arts Federation), his introduction into the world of MMA via his next door neighbour, the constant sport-wide evolution, the ‘damned if you do, damned if you don’t’ life of a ref, new rule revisions, and just so much goodness from a wise, friendly figure in the sport. As stated earlier, one for the fans of course but also one for those not so acquainted with the world, and certainly one for those hungry to learn.
