In 2004 the USS Nimitz carrier strike group investigated a group of unusual radar signatures off the coast of southern California. Aircraft from the carrier were deployed to obtain visual confirmation on these craft that had been puzzling the radar operators in the area for the last several days. One of these flights would capture infrared footage of what appeared to be a supremely maneuverable craft that outpaced the combat aircraft sent to intercept it. In July of 2017, 20th Century Fox commissioned a national survey regarding aliens and alien abductions. Of those surveyed, almost 40 percent believed E.T.s have visited Earth at some point. Professor Loeb received a PhD in plasma physics at age 24 from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (1986) and was subsequently a long-term member at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton (1988-1993), where he started to work in theoretical astrophysics. In 1993 he moved to Harvard University where he was tenured three years later.  He is now the Frank B. Baird Jr. Professor of Science and former chair of the department.
