Manu Seyfzadeh is of Persian and German descent. He is a medical doctor and scientist by academic training having obtained his M.D. and Ph.D. degrees at the University of California, Irvine. After internship at Baylor University in Houston, Texas, he completed the S.T.A.R. program at UCLA, combining residency in dermatology, and a post-doctoral fellowship program in molecular immunology.
