Surat Al-Baqarah - Part 37
Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan begins his lecture with an explicit elaboration on Ayats 103 and 104 of the magnificent Surah Al Baqarah.
Regarding Ayat 103, the Ustadh explains that If the jews had followed the principles of Islam, instead of following Shaytan and practising sorcery, they would have got its reward from Allah.
The Jews had believed in the Deen without a doubt, but they did not guard themselves against evil and did not take a detour from the things forbidden by Allah. Henceforth, Allah did not attach any importance to their belief and they were called the disbelievers and were abstained from the rewards and profits that Allah would have given them rather than what they tried to seek through sorcery.
Elucidating about Ayat number 104 of Surah Al Baqarah, Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan says that during the time of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, some of the Bani Israel invented a new way to make fun of the Prophet ﷺ as is said in the Ayat,
"O you who believe, do not say Ra'ina, but say Unzurna, and listen. And for the unbelievers, there is a grievous punishment."
"Ra'ina" in Arabic means "be mindful of us", but in Hebrew, the word is a curse. The Arabs and Muslims, not knowing the double intention of the Bani Israel, also began to address the Prophet ﷺ with this word, much to the great glee of the Bani Israelis. Therefore, Allah (SWT) commands Muslims to address the Prophet ﷺ by using the word Unzurna. What did the word mean? Listen intently to find out.

Surat Al-Baqarah - Part 36
Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan delves into an exhaustive analysis of Ayat number 102 of Surah Al Baqarah. This Ayat was revealed at the time when black magic became popular and widely practiced, and this was during the time of Sulaiman (AS). many opinions have emanated about the reason for the revelation of this verse as is listed below:
The Jews thought that Sulaiman (AS) was associated with sorcery and magic. The Quran made sure to deny such vile allegations against Sulaiman (AS).
These verses condemn the Jews for indulging in black magic themselves.
Seeing the results of black magic, ignorant people began to confuse its effects with the miracles of the Prophets AS which was unacceptable.
Magic had become a source of misguidance, and Allah sent two angels, Harut and Marut, to inform people about its true nature and its different forms so that people could distinguish it from the miracles of the Prophets. The angels informed the people what they should be careful about and what they should avoid. Many other results can be deduced from this powerful Ayat and warrants an intent listen in order to fully fathom the gravity of the verse.

Surat Al-Baqarah - Part 35
Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan delves into the Tafseer of Ayats 99 to 101 of Surah Al Baqarah.
‘"And indeed We have sent down to you manifest Ayat, and none disbelieve in them but Fasiqun."
The Bani Israel were trying to make excuses because of the love for this world. In Ayat 99 we see that only the sinners disbelieve, as it blinds people. Sin is a blinder in the Deen. When we see a mistake in our lives, we should be very quick to exhibit gratitude to Allah (SWT) for opening our eyes and accept our mistakes as flaws.
"Is it not (the case) that every time they make a covenant, some party among them throw it aside? Nay! (the truth) is most of them believe not. And when there came to them a Messenger from Allah confirming what was with them, a party of those who were given the Scripture threw away the Book of Allah behind their backs as if they did not know!"
In Ayahs 100 and 101, we see that due to the disease of attachment to this world, we distance ourselves from Deen. If our hearts long for Deen, then Allah will remove Duniya from the heart and fill it with Deen. It's up to us what we choose to fill it with.

Surat Al-Baqarah - Part 34
Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan delves into the mesmerising Tafseer of Ayats 96-98 of Surah Al Baqarah.
Ayah 96 reiterates the fact that it is essential to not get completely involved in this world, and remember Allah (SWT) and the Hereafter come what may. Long Life won’t save one from accountability as this world is a prison for the believer and Paradise for the disbeliever. He who longs to meet Allah SWT is not afraid of death and if one is not prepared for death, they will wish that their death time is delayed. Allah SWT says that He knows what His servants are doing. The good and evil all is being noted down in our records and we will be compensated accordingly.
Ayat 97 has Allah SWT elaborating that whoever becomes an enemy of Angel Jibreel who is the messenger of the Glorious Quran will have taken all the messengers as enemies. Also, whoever believes in one Messenger must believe in all of the Messengers.
► People must love and remember Allah SWT in their hearts.
► People must remember Him with their tongues in solitude and in a crowd.
► People must do the deeds that please Him and abandon those which displease Him.

Surat Al-Baqarah - Part 33
Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan delves into Ayahs 93 to 95 of the magnificent Surah Al Baqarah.
In Ayat 93, "And (remember) when We took your covenant and We raised above you the Mount (saying), "Hold firmly to what We have given you and hear (Our Word). They said, "We have heard and disobeyed." And their hearts absorbed (the worship of) the calf because of their disbelief. Say: "Worst indeed is that which your faith enjoins on you if you are believers."
When Musa (AS) brought the Torah to the Bani Israel, they only chose to follow rulings as they pleased. This is when the angels lifted Mt. Sinai over their heads to warn them. Allah tells them to judge their faith by seeing the result of their Iman.
The Bani Israel claimed that Jannah is exclusively for them, and not anyone else. Allah SWT responds to this by saying that if they are certain that Jannah is for them, then they should wish for death. But they get terrified at the mention of death itself.
In Ayah 95, we gather that the people knew that if they had wished for death, Allah would have finished them off right away. They knew that they were just making excuses to not believe in the Prophet ﷺ, because they desired this world.

Dont Judge Spread Salam
Allah dedicates strong ayat in Surat An-Nisaa to describing the fate of al-Munafiqun (the hypocrites), angrily describing their deserved place in the lowest depths of hell. However, as Nouman Ali Khan explains, Allahâs anger is not a justification for us to get angry at them.
This khutbah was given at Masjid Ramadan in London, England on 09/02/2016.

Amazed By The Quran - Emotional Intelligence
The very first lesson we learn from the story of Prophet Yusuf is that sometimes we must deal with harsh realities within our families and that as parents we must communicate warnings to our children very clearly.
The Quran teaches us to have emotional intelligence and to ensure that our children take precautions against unhealthy relationships.
