Studying Surah Al Mulk - Part 1
Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan delves into extracting the gist of Surah Al Mulk. This magnificent Surah is exemplary and is unique in the following manner:
Its placement in the Qur'an - it is one of the last of the Makki Surahs.
It is actually that Surah about which multiple narrations are being made by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ via Ahadith and thus, ensuring that we are majorly connected to this Surah.
The Surah is broken into 6 parts: the second portion is the longest and there is more talk of HellFire and less about Jannah in this Surah. Thus, it is more focused on the disbelievers. Atheists talk about the creation of the universe, contradicting the basic laws of thermodynamics, evolution and they can rationalize their thinking while making baseless theories to convince them that they found differences and gaps in God's creations, but in vain.
Close scrutiny of the universe reveals that Allah is the Most Powerful and the Most Blessed. He has created this world with a purpose- as a trial and test for man as to who adopts the right path and who the wrong one. A necessary outcome of this trial is that a Day will come wherein the righteous be rewarded and the misguided and the wrongdoers will be punished.

In The Eyes Of Allah
In this khutabah Ustadh Nouman recounts the story behind Surah âAbasa, a Mekki surah that was revealed as Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was speaking to one of the elites of Quraish. On this rare occasion when one of the tribal leaders was actually listening to the Prophet, a blind distant relative of the Prophet rushed to him, interrupting the conversation to ask for guidance and inspiration. Even though the Prophetâs reaction was muted - he only slightly frowned and looked away - Allah revealed these ayat to draw the attention of the Prophet and the rest of us, that in the eyes of Allah, this blind man who sought the Prophet out with all his senses, is more worthy than those with hardened hearts no matter what their status in society.

Honoring Honest Work
Jumuah Khutbah on June 7th, 2017 @ Bayyinah Institute
The only thing that distinguishes one Muslim from another, as Nouman Ali Khan teaches us in this khutbah, is their level of fear of Allah. In Aya 11 of Surah Al-Hujuraat, Allah says that we must never make others feel inferior to us, whether because of their race or the job they do. Ustadh Nouman reminds us of how Prophet Dawoud, who was one of the greatest rulers humanity has ever known, was honored by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) for eating from the toil of his own hands and how the Quran too honored him for his ability to shape metal. Despite the greatness of his kingdom, he was an ironsmith, and by dignifying him as such, Allah has dignified every kind of halal work as work in the path of Allah.

The Prize Of Submission To Allah
Jumuah Khubah: In todayâs hyper consumerist societies, where effortless instant gratification is the norm, it is easy for those whose faith is weak to stray from the path of Allah. Those whose faith is literally âon the edgeâ, weighed down by unanswered questions and unresolved emotions, are ready to fall off when faced with lifeâs inevitable trials and tribulations. But at such times of personal and public crisis, says Nouman Ali Khan, we must remember that the purpose of those tests is to draw those with strong faith closer to Allah, who has a plan for everybody. Both Yacoub (AS) and Musaâs mother lost a child but despite their agony, and because they both had unshakable faith, the former was reunited with his son after many years while the latter was returned to his mother within hours. When we question Allahâs design we miss the core truth that reality will only submit to us when we submit ourselves to Allah. This is ultimately the path to inherit paradise.

Ramadan With The Quran - Day 24
Surah Az-Zalzalah
In the final passage of Surah Az-Zalzalah, Allah describes the moment of resurrection and how our deeds will be weighed on the Day of Judgment. Ustadh Nouman explains to us that the word "yasdur" gives an entire spectrum of meaning that implies that our existence on this earth was no more than a brief stop at a watershed in a desert journey. During this temporary stop, believers and disbelievers live together side by side, but at the end of this journey they will be separated and shown their deeds. It's a mercy from Allah that none of our good deeds will be forgotten, even if they weigh the equivalent of a speck of dust. On the scales of Judgment Day, good deeds and good intentions, no matter how small they seem in human terms, have the heaviest weight.

Ramadan With The Quran - Day 23
Surah Al-Bayyinah
In this talk Ustadh Nouman focuses on the first two ayat of Surah Al-Bayyinah, which he says have been the subject of many different interpretations. Here, he delves into the meanings of two key words: "munfakkeen", which denotes "getting separated", and "al-bayyinah" (The Quran) which means "that which provides clear evidence." In his interpretation, Ustadh concludes that these ayat refer to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) himself, and how his credibility in his community and his honesty, combined with the delivery of this purified scripture, transformed Mecca (and the world) separating those who are truly and genuinely faithful, from those who disbelieve. This separation took place in this world and will continue in the afterlife.

Ramadan With The Quran - Day 21
Surah Al-Alaq
In his introductory comments to a more detailed interpretation of Surah Al-Alaq, Ustadh Nouman stresses the importance of understanding the context in which its ayat were revealed. Here Ustadh reads and explains the narration - verified in Sahih Al-Bukhari - which details Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH) very first encounter with Jibreel (AS). He recounts how the Angel asked him to read three times, each time holding him very tight. Terrified and unsure of his own sanity, the Prophet rushes home to his wife Khadija, who, in a beautiful part of this narration, lists all the formidable qualities of the Prophet, assuring him that god will never let him down because of his excellent character and how thoughtful and caring he is to other people.

Ramadan With The Quran - Day 20
Surah At-Tin
In this talk Ustadh Nouman focuses on Ayat 4-6 of Surah At-Tin. These ayat follow the opening oaths where Allah reminds us of Prophets Eissa, Musa and Muhammad (PBUH) and by association of the messages they carried. In this transition to the heart of the surah, Allah makes a strong statement about how He created man in the most upright fashion, balancing him both physically and spiritually. Those amazing messengers who's memory was evoked in the opening ayat, are proof that human beings can be sublime; but then the tragedy is that they have allowed themselves to be reduced to the lowest of the low by rejecting Allah's message. Yet again Allah offers hope to those who pull themselves out of the depths of darkness and, guided by Him, correct the wrongs of the past and do everything necessary to fulfil the conditions of their iman.
